The mystery of the vanishing print job
...rol window open for the printer I can see the print job appear briefly, then it vanishes, as though it had printed, but nothing comes out of the printer. . . I end up with a message in /var/log/messages along the lines of: May 22 20:43:39 tito PAM_pwdb[642]: 1 authentication failure; (uid=0) -> cnww for samba service Which strikes me as odd since I know I have the right password (I've already connected to and accessed files in my home directory, in fact the data files for this mail reader reside in my home dir on tito), and I also know that the user ID (which I assume is what uid is refer...

Time Synchronisation
Hi. I'm running on a Windows 98 client and an RS6000 with Samba 2.0.7 (latest). I've used "net time \\ibrissde /SET /YES" to sync the times between the two systems ... but if I save a file onto the RS6000 through Samba on a mapped drive the file in UNIX is 1 hour old. I haven't been able to find any help on this so I'm assuming it's a bug !? This was also true

Samba & Linux SMP kernel
Greetings all, I'm still struggling with Samba 2.0.7-4 on a RedHat Linux 6.2 box and I'm wondering if there are any known issues when using samba on a box with multiple processors. I *seem* to recall reading something about this quite awhile ago, but I can't find it and don't remember enough about it to be useful. :-( Currently I'm using 1.9.18p10-52.4 on the box

Login script
Is there a file I can place in the netlogin directory (or anywhere else for that matter) that will represnet a logon script? I want to have my workstations auto-mount particular shares on the samba server, without the user having to make the mount. This way when I add new users, the shares are automatically present. If there is a script I can place somwehre, please tell me what it's name is

...org/pipermail/samba/ I'm running version 2.2. I noticed in the documentation there is mention of a tool for mounting SMB partitions, but it's only available for Linux(?). I doesn't appear in my binary distribution for Solaris SPARC. Why is this Linux only? thanks. AFAIK The answers are roughly the following: The difference between Samba and NFS is primarily that Samba uses the SMB (aka Lanmanager) protocol which is considered "standard" for PCs (Windows and OS/2 both have built in support for it, a free client is also available for
