direct-inward-dialing (DID)
I know that Asterisk supports DID, but does anyone have documentation on how to write the configuration for it? I'll be trying to setup a hybrid system where some incoming numbers will be DID enabled and others won't, so I'll need to be able to sort between the two, i.e. directly connect the DID dialed numbers and route the others to an autoattendant for extension dialing.

vfs_fruit in 4.3.4 Directory Renames with Open Files Problem
Hello Everyone, We've observed a problem in with the latest version of samba and vfs_fruit and was wondering if anyone has seen the same problem. Samba 4.3.4 with vfs_fruit enabled allows a Mac client to rename a directory when another client has another client has open files in that directory. The fix for this bug brought this functional change to vs_fruit: BUG 11065: vfs_fruit: Enable

SAS/short stroking vs. SSDs for ZIL
Hi, as I have learned from the discussion about which SSD to use as ZIL drives, I stumbled across this article, that discusses short stroking for increasing IOPs on SAS and SATA drives: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/short-stroking-hdd,2157.html Now, I am wondering if using a mirror of such 15k SAS drives would be a good-enough fit for a ZIL on a zpool that is mainly used for file

Password sync in 3.6.0 on OS X 10.7, Lion
...in the printing industry, needed to migrate to a faster file server. As our directory trees are very large, both Samba, and Netatalk were bogging down badly on our Linux server (Samba, due to heavy CPU usage during directory listings - the case-sensitive file system issue, and netatalk because the cnid db was getting too big). Our solution was to switch to a Mac server running a Thunderbolt RAID array. This forced us into using Lion, as the only Snow Leopard machines with thunderbolt ports are laptops. The new server as extremely fast even with our large file systems. But SMBX is causing numerou...

"Fixing the Caller-ID Problem", by John Todd for O'ReillyNet
This seems like a piece members of this list would find interesting... === There is growing concern over the interaction of VoIP systems with the legacy PSTN, and the transmission of caller identity data--most notably, Caller ID on the PSTN. It is not always possible, or obvious how, to handle Caller ID data when moving to or from VoIP and the PSTN networks. There are even business models

Sending caller name out PRI?
...makes it through. If I plug that same port on the PBX to a carrier the PBX presents both name and number. Hints or pokes to relevant chapters in documentation? My config is essentially like one found here: http://www.voip-info.org/files/nortel-asterisk-0.2.pdf The author makes no reference to CNID, so I'm assuming that he wasn't bothered by it not working. Ideas? The system is a trixbox 2.6.0.7 which includes zaptel-1.4.9.2-8. ... -- Executing [s at macro-outbound-callerid:22] NoOp("SIP/3991-b7900488", "CallerID set to "Peter" <NPANXX3991>")...

vfs_fruit in 4.3.4 Directory Renames with Open Files Problem
...clients. But given the impact of allowing the rename, I think we should add an option to disallow them as a workaround. This gives us time until Apple ships a fix. Do we already have a bugreport for this, and if not, can you file one? Btw, AFP references files and directories by catalog node IDs (CNIDs) and not by path, so for this and other reasons they don't care about renames. -Ralph -- SerNet GmbH, Bahnhofsallee 1b, 37081 Göttingen phone: +49-551-370000-0, fax: +49-551-370000-9 AG Göttingen, HRB 2816, GF: Dr. Johannes Loxen http://www.sernet.de,mailto:kontakt at sernet.de

Caller ID not getting to analog extensions
Hi Folks, Recent installation with a simple TDM11B (one FXO, one FXS) that I've set up (at home). I am receiving callerID fine from the telco, as it shows up in my call detail records, AND on 2 SIP phones. However, I'm not reliably receiving it (that is, very seldom does it come through) on the analog phones. Any ideas on where to check configurations, etc? I haven't encountered this

Is the unsupported kernel considered stable-ish?
I have a need to use the unsupported kernel for one feature only (AFP/Appletalk support). Never having had to use it before, I''m unsure of what''s all in it other than reading it''s config file. From those that do use it -- is it considered stable enough to use in lightweight production? I''m debating the use of it versus wasting my time rebuilding the normal
