about samba failover
...main member (file server)
- Apache2 server
- email server
As all eggs are in the same basket (French talking), I've setup a 2nd
xen-based server that uses DRBD/Pacemaker to provide the basic dom0
functions.
Now it's time about Samba ...
( I've read : https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Clustered_Samba )
From other readings, it seems that GlusterFS is not actually a valid
solution (permissions troubles from Windows side).
I was wondering if setting up Samba VMs that would use a RAID1 DRBD
network (RAID1 between xen-host1 and xen-host2) filesystem would be an
acceptable solution.

Confused about ctdb options: dbdir and dbdir-persistent
Hi all
http://linux.die.net/man/1/ctdbd. In this page, it says “This directory is local for each node and should not be stored on the shared cluster filesystem”. But why? Thanks for reply.
--dbdir=<directory>
This is the directory on local storage where ctdbd keeps the local copy of the TDB databases. This directory is local for each node and should not be stored on the shared cluster

durable file handles cross-node confusion
...support SMB3 protocol.
Another approach is sharing durable handles data between samba nodes (through CTDB or samba itself). This solution do not require client supporting SMB3 protocol and has good compatibility with win7/win8/win10. Has anyone been working on it? https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Clustered_Samba#Clustered_Samba_Prototypes . This page mentions three projects which maybe relate to this approach, but they can not be opened.
Am I right about the descriptions above?
This wiki page mentions about “Durable handle cross-node”, but it just say “To be filled”. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samb...

Samba Read-only redundancy
Hi Everyone,
We are setting up some READ-ONLY Samba servers, mounted from the same
volume on a SAN. The files are media files to be played out by
Windows Media Servers mounted on Win2003.
Here are my thoughts about possible configurations, would someone mind
letting me know what would the best option be?
A) DNS Round Robin
Have foo.domain resolve to 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.3.
10.0.0.1

file locking question
Hi all,
If I have a linux server running samba for filesharing and I use NFS to
make these shares available on another linux server that also runs samba
to share the same shares will the locking still work properly?
I can use this to get around an issue with multiple authentication
domains and I suspect NFS is less chatty than SMB anyway so will mean a
peformance win as well across the WAN.

Possible to have two SAMBA srvs act as one?
Hi,
is it possible to share write locks amongst two samba servers?
We are experiencing performance issues all the time, because one
location (location A) is connected via VPN to the main location
(location B) and needs to access files hosted there on some samba shares.
Now loc A gets its own server, but still files hosted in B need to be
read/write accessed from A and vice versa.
It would be

Problem logon to PDC
Hello,
I have setup a cluster system with drbd and heartbeat. I have samba running
as a PDC. Everything works great when I am on server1 But when failover
ocuurs I cannot seem to log on the domain anymore.
I Have symlinks to my home share : /var/cache/samba , /etc/samba/ who are
synced between 2 servers.
Do I have to sync another files ??

Nothing is returned for getent "SAMDOM\user"
