OT: Fortunate clueless dd chum - lvm recovery
Looks like the chum did not have to lose any data. Wiping out the MBR and the next 63 blocks apparently only wiped out grub stage1, partition table, and part of the lvm config data. I get to try to do a lvm 'recovery' at his expense now but this is my first time...has anybody ever tried restoring lvm config data back to the md/pv device? Cheers, Christopher

using ldap only idmap
Hi, I'm trying to make a "pure ldap" setup, whereas users, groups, id mappings and everything that is supported with LDAP be in the LDAP tree and managed directly by samba. That is, I'm using: ldapsam:trusted = yes ldapsam:editposix = yes And NOT using smbldap-*. My smb.conf is here: http://wiki.clueless.com.ar/SambaLdap/smb.conf-PDC I created the LDAP tree root

Re: Slashdot: "Could Microsoft buy Red Hat?" -- this is a joke made by the clueless

People who even suggest this only expose their *0* understanding of business. Microsoft has an alliance with Sun. Why?

Basic connection between Mitel 3300 ICP and Asterisk (trixbox) - from a clueless newbie....
Hi all, Our company has deployed a Mitel 3300 system (only about 2.5 years ago) and we are experimenting with setting up Asterisk in our head office (for business continuity, ie we have a bird flu epidemic and no-one can come in, therefore use SIP softphones at home to co-ordinate activity) and at a remote site in the Isle of Man (connected via 2Mbps SDSL) Ideally we'd like anyone on either

BlackBerry will not setup my POP3 email, all other mail clients fine
Hello, hoping someone here might be able to help me or at least point me in the right direction. My company recently (last week) moved to a new dedicated server for website and email hosting. It is a fairly run-of-the-mill Linux machine running cPanel and Dovecot (with the BlackBerry Fastmail service enabled) as a mail server. When we first set up the server, I was able to create a mailbox,

Thanks to everyone who helped me when I was totally clueless. Now I'm only partially clueless, and in writing functions, which is major progress. This is a function that is a major improvement over which I was using MS Excel for: function() { files <- list.files(pattern="ABN*") # All the models start with the letters ABN for( i in 1:length(files)) # loop through the

Ordering a Voice PRI for Asterisk
We are in the process of ordering a Voice PRI to plug into Asterisk. Of course we will be buying a card from Digium for this. Question is this, there seem to be MANY options technically when ordering this PRI (in the US) but since this is the first time ordering a voice circuit I am clueless as to what options we need. Any clues would be helpful or maybe something has already been written

[LLVMdev] Creating an LLVM Project
Hello, I just tried to work through the "Creating an LLVM Project" tutorial and have some suggestions to improve that page (http://www.llvm.org/ docs/Projects.html). 1. The tutorial says "remove all the directories named .svn ("Create a Project from the Sample Project", step 2), so here's a command to copy-and-paste and run from within the new project

Not getting updates?
I installed CentOS 7 late last year to use as my Nagios/Cacti Monitoring server. Clean install, nothing real complicated just the server version with no GUI, just command line/SSH. I have noticed over the last 3 months that I've not had ANY updates when I run 'yum update'. I have run 'yum clean all' to see if that might be a problem, and I've made sure the updates repo

Webrick is being stupid...no info on a brand new project
I created a project, made a migration, generated scaffolding...start up webrick and I get nothing. To simplify things, I just started another project and generated a controller, still getting nothing. The index page loads fine, but nothing beyond that. If I go to anything that should give me a 404, the page is just blank. The Webrick console just says a 500 (nothing explaining why), and
