GIMP 2.4 on CentOS 5?
...as I understand, building GIMP 2.4 would involve some changes to [base] packages, like upgrading GTK. Anyone built GIMP 2.4 successfully without wrecking the system? I guess I'd take an SRPM from FC8 from rpm.pbone.net, and then start from here. Only I prefer to ask first. Cheers from the cloudy South of France, Niki

sum of digits or how to slice a number into its digits
...-> c(1,0,1,0) 100100110 -> (1,0,0,1,0,0,1,1,0). Does anyone know either a function for calculating the sum of the digits of a bumber, or how to slice a number into a vector of its digits as described above? I'd appreciate any kind of help very much! Thanx in advance and greetings from cloudy Munich, Felix

16-bit bytes support

multivariate, hierarchical model
Sorry for the last email, sent too early. I have a small data set that has a hierarchical structure. It has both temporal (year, months) and spatial (treatment code and zone code). The following explains the data: WSZ_Code the water supply zone code (1 to 8) Treatment_Code the treatment plant which supplies each water supply zone (1 to 4)

Cisco 7940 and PJSIP registration
Thank you. I read that last yesterday afternoon, and I could've sworn I tried that but I will look into it again (I've tried so many different things it was getting cloudy what I've tried and what worked etc, combined that the extension config gets messed up after playing with it so much so I'm often recreating it as well). I also found a bug report in the FreePBX bug tracker http://issues.freepbx.org/browse/FREEPBX-8517 It's not exactly the same, but i...

About the weather..
Ok, I've been away from the list for sometime now and feel as though I'm going to ask something that's been asked many times before, yet I find nothing in the wiki, so here goes: I notice that allison has done recordings for weather forecasts, yet I find no agi's that parse forecasts and use this recordings to piece together the forecast. I find plenty of weather agi's, but

[Bridge] Option to forward *unconditionally* on a bridge?
...----------------- ----------------------------- This requires the vswitch outside of the vm hosting the simulation to allow promiscuous mode (so that containers can send/receive Ethernet frames through the hosting VM's interface (e.g., ens32). It turns out that at least on one "cloudy" hosted solution the guest VMs are forbidden from sending "spoofed" ethernet traffic, i.e. the ens32 "vm.mac" address is strictly enforced outside the VM (on the inter-vm vswitch). The obvious solution would be to assign ens32's VM.MAC as the mac address of eth0 inside...

Watch out, 5.5 is coming!
Yes, it is that time of year again: The weather is cold and cloudy, the sun doesn't show itself very often, so it must be CentOS release time! This time we'd like to offer CentOS 5.5 to the world - and the CentOS Live CD, too. So if you have a little time: the beginnings of the Release Notes can be found under <http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNo...

How to export a classification model from R to a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)
...e problem: caret -> training -> model -> model.rds -> model.xml (PMML) --?--> VHDL-Code --?--> FPGA The (simplified) task: A photo detector with 16 channels is measuring the intensity of 16 different wavelength ranges. These data are classified with the possible results ?sunny?, ?cloudy? and ?rainy?. The model is trained, tested and finalized with ?caret? and saved as an .rds-file. The solution with R: Import new data and classify them with that model. The problem without R: How can the model be converted to other languages? (e.g. PMML, but this only supports a couple of models)...

Cloud on CentOS Server
I'm looking into adding a cloud to one of my servers. Criteria: security accessible via Windoze, Android Mobile Devices, iPhones, iPads, Macs Preferably something living under one of the better repos, such as epel An active project doing updates and adding features. I don't suppose any of you have ideas for this? ;) -- John Hinton 877-777-1407 ext 502 http://www.ew3d.com Comprehensive

ksmooth in SPLUS vs R
I am working with a model that I have to estimate a nonparametric function. The model is partial linear i.e. Y=X$\beta$ + f(z) + $\epsilon$ I am using the ' double residual methods' Robinson (1988) Speckman (1988) where I estimate a nonparametric function for each of the parametric variables in terms of the nonparametric one i.e. X[,i]=g(Z)+ u this is done because I need the $E(
