Clearlooks-phenix also works fine with the latest C7/Mate and looks more like a "traditional" Gnome 2 desktop.
yum install clearlooks-phenix-gtk2-theme clearlooks-phenix-gtk3-theme
Go to the look and feel preferences setting on your desktop and select Clearlooks-phenix from the list.

Clearlooks & Bluecurve icons missing from Centos 6
The Clearlooks and Bluecurve icon directories that were provided
under Centos 5 that have disappeared on Centos 6. Clearlooks icons were
provided by gnome-themes-2.16.0-1.fc6 and has disappeared with
gnome-themes-2.28.1-6.el6.noarch, and Bluecurve icons were provided by

Un-intuitive as it may be, you may just need to start using either the Adwaita or Clearlooks-phenix theme.
One chap I know of that's using the CERN linux told me that solved a problem similar to yours by using the clearlooks-phenix theme.
I use clearlooks-phenix here to solve a different set of problems (menus on Gnome-terminal and Geany), and I don't really like the way Adwait...

Desktop Choice Centos 4/Centos 5 or Fedora 9
I have a choice of CentOS 4/5 and Fedora 9 on a laptop.
I have not use CentOS 5 on a desktop but have used
CentOS 4 and Fedora 9. I found the Fedora Gnome not
as appealing as the CentOS 4 clearlooks. Any opinions
from someone who has used CentOS 4/5 and Fedora?
I'm not a KDE fan so KDE users need not reply.

Vandaman.

gtk3 update causing havoc
On my lab systems, the automatic updates were failing because of the
problems with ipod libraries from EPEL being in the way. It turns out
that was a good thing, because when I "fixed" it, a massive set of
packages was updated, including the new gtk3.
These packages are the ones causing problems, I think.

Skype Issue
Hey Y'all,
Seems my Skype installation has stopped working.
I have skype-4.3.0.37-2.el6.i686.rpm from the Nux repo.
[mlapier at peach ~]$ skype %U

module_path: "clearlooks",
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "pk-gtk-module"
I checked the yum log. Other than the 6.7 upgrade these are all the
transactions I see.

strange error message from freedesktop.org in the R window!
...achine).
I havent'done anything special in the compilation of R, but I have
done one chasnge of configuration of ubuntu (probably gnome) which can
(or cannot) be relevant. because of some annoying problems with emacs
23, I went to
System---Preferences---Appearnace and choose "Theme"Clearlooks"
(which also is better on my eyesighy)
and " Visual effects" none. This in effect turns of the nvidia driver,
and seems to keep emacs 23 hqappy.
But why this strange Freedesktop.org messages above? --- Whivh repeat
with an annoying freequency.

[GWD] I've found the leak! Needs the fix!
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12450
It seems that gwd leaks or something similar, it can't handle too much
<tint> xml operations
I hope these can be fixed as GNOME 2.20 is using Clearlooks theme and
this is making compiz unusable
Cheers

Tried to load a theme, didn't work. No error message.
I searched every wine forum and wiki I could find, but there's no
information on wine theming.
I downloaded an *.msstyles file, and opened it with winecfg (Desktop
Integration->Install theme...). Nothing changed. The style I selected
didn't even get added to the list - the only option is still "(No
Theme)". There was no error message.
wine 0.9.8
This is the style I tried:

Mini-centOS
I am using centOS for my server and centOS is extremely stable. I almost love centOS more than my wife. However, centOS is a bit heavy to run on my notebook (P III 1G, 256MB RAM). I need gnome, firefox, openoffice, realplayer, gaim, acrobat and thunderbird on my notebook, but if I install all of them (plus base-system), my notebook becomes very slow. I wish I could have a lighter version of centOS
