conditional coding question
I have a big dataset. I want to create a new factor variable with certain
conditions based on two existing numeric variables.
Existing variables: indinc (range: 0 to 16), groupinc (range -3 to 5)
Conditional values that 'incorp' will take:
If groupinc = 5, then ?cons?;
If groupinc is -3 : -2, AND indinc < 9, then ?ethnat?;
If groupinc is -2 : -1, AND indinc > 8, then ?civic?;

Centos 7 and RAM
...you when you give more information.
I have CentOS 7 running happily on 4GB. My presumption - based on
experience, extrapolation, and google - is that it will also run with 64TB.
Anything between those numbers should be good.

Working with one model from another
Hi all,
I have some code where I''d like to set up an instance of a non-database
model from another, ActiveRecord, model in order to use some custom
methods on a string, without mixing extra methods into the String class.
I understand this might be less-than-sensible as models should normally
stand on their own..?
My two models:

ZFS versus VxFS as file system inside Netbackup 6.0 DSSU
Hello experts,
We have a large implementation of Symantec Netbackup 6.0 with disk staging. Today, the customer is using VxFS as file system inside Netbackup 6.0 DSSU (disk staging).
The customer would like to know if it is best to use ZFS or VxFS as file system inside Netbackup disk staging in order to get the best performance possible.
Could you provide some information regarding this

Authentication Problem...
Hi All,
I am sure that you have all read this email a thousand times before, but I am
having problems getting the information together and checking that what I think I can do, can be done :)
At the moment, we currently have 3 or 4 sources of authentication. We have Novell thats used or all users, OpenLDAP thats used for all mail accounts and
some NT accounts that are used for things like

Question on server speed

WHY? Why would you do that? What's the point of SSD if you reduce the
speed to USB? Or just use an old mechanical drive instead. Any issue
with that drive will show up as IO Wait - my presumption is that you
expect to see that so you're not mentioning it but it's going to

automating aov function
I am running the aov function to determine the linear relationship between
individual genes and a number of covariates in a micro-array data set. My
aov function is working, but I have not been able to write a code to save
these results in a matrix. I am using the following code or a slight
variation of this code:
for(i in 1(length(m[1,])-20)
{tmp<- aov(m[,i]~treat, data=m)

Linux Kernel crash on S390
Hi,
I was hoping some one may be able to help with a problem I have.
If I try to modify/write to a share from a windows 2000 desktop (through
windows explorer or through command prompt) then Linux crashes with the
following error.

destroy snapshot vs. destroy incomplete snapshot
Recently I had a system with an incomplete snapshot. The
destination system hung in the middle of a zfs recv. It ended up
taking about 75 GB of kernel memory to destroy that incomplete
snapshot. Yet destroying another copy of that same snapshot took less
than 6 GB of memory.
Does a destroy of a snapshot take a different path through the
code than destroying an incomplete snapshot (as part of

group by (2 -levels)
My table looks like: make | model | year
And I''d like to display the info like:
Make 01
Model 01
Year 01
Year 02
Year 03
Model 02
Year 01
Year 02
Make 02
Model 01
Year 01
Year 02
etc...
I think group_by will work for 1 level, but are there any ideas for a
better solution?
Thank You,

Opening help pages in new tab of existing Mozilla Firebird
Subject pretty much says it all. I currently have options()$browser
set to open help pages in Mozilla Firebird, but it starts a new window
each time and I would like a new 'tab' in an existing window.
Sorry if this is obvious, but I can't find anything.

Restore destroyed snapshot ???
OK, I am a butt-head and accidentally destroyed my last snapshot of a

VIF's in R using BIGLM

I am working on developing an open-source automated system for running
batch-regressions on very large datasets. In my previous post, I posed
