[LLVMdev] XOR Optimization
Hi- > I haven't seen a machine in which OR is faster than ADD nor more energy-efficient. They're all done by the same ALU circuitry which delays the pipeline by its worstcase path timing. So, for modern processor hardware purposes, OR is exactly equal ADD. Transforming ADD to OR isn't strenght reduction at all. Maybe this is benefical only if you have a backend generating circuitry (programming FPGAs). I believe that in ca...

...nal when it reaches a low battery state, regardless of whether the UPS publishes runtime statistics, battery percentages, or any other such values. The real difference between a "smart" and "dumb" UPS is not just the protocol, but how advanced the battery monitoring and charging circuitry is. I have an old MGE UPS that uses the usbhid-ups driver, and I have no problems shutting down the system via the LB signal in NUT. The non-Powerware-based Eaton units can be considered "descendants" of this hardware, from what I understand, and provide similar variables. (Note that I...

VAD Questions
...- Is it possible to obtain the VAD status of a Speex stream asynchronously? The current API seems to imply that some kind of polling is required to determine the voice/non-voice status. - Does the VAD algorithm implement syllabic/sonorant rate detection, as has been implemented many times in analog circuitry, and is described in this (and other) papers? http://people.csail.mit.edu/jrg/2005/IS05_schutte.pdf - Over what time period is VAD done? Is it done on a frame by frame basis or over some longer period? Thank you, -- Larry Gadallah, VE6VQ/W7 lgadallah AT gmail DOT com PGP...

Hellllp Pl: Centos 4.4 Default LVM install boot/recovery problem
...home directory or couple of directories in the / I am willing to do a reinstall if my data is preserved. What do I need to do to diagnose the problem? and pointers to recovering from this problem and various tradeoffs. Can't lose data, as already have lost backup server (smps, motherboard, hdd circuitry all short-circuited, so no hope there). LVM howto was not much of a help as it seems to mostly have how to expand or reduce lvm and similar issues. Please keep in mind that I am a user and not sys-admin, though I can use command-line, if instructions & how-tos are there. Please help. With be...

UPS compatibility list
So where does this leave things regards Eaton and shut down? Has anyone managed graceful shut down from an Eaton unit with either of the ushhid or bcmxcp drivers? Perhaps I should be coming at this from the other end of the stick. What manufactures have the best support in NUT that I can look at and be confident I'm likely to have a successful deployment? Really the only deal breaker

Cheap PoE switches/injectors?
I'm trying to spec out hardware for a new office, and I'd like to include power over Ethernet as an option. I've seen a handful of PoE injectors around $1000 for 24 ports and a couple switches up around $2500 for 24 ports. Are there any cheaper options, short of buying a boatload of 1-port injectors off of ebay? I don't really need more then 24 ports of PoE out of 48 total

ignorant question about Digium cards and MeetMe
...ebsite, * TE420 mentions 'synchronization' between channels * TE220 mentions 'synchronization' between channels * TE121P does not mention 'synchronization' Does this mean that TE220 is the 'minimum' Digium phone card that still provides the timing / synchronization circuitry that MeetMe uses for mixing?

diff question, Belkin F6C100-4 this time
..., which had swelled so badly I had to split its frame to get them out. They are also in the under 1 volt per 12 volt pack charge state, which considering they are about 5 years old & it hasn't been plugged in for 18 months because it had failed & would not restart. Looking over the circuitry, and playing Sherlock with the clues since I am a C.E.T., it appears that there is a relay in series with the line voltage input, which is driven by that section of the PCB that is connected only to the battery, and that without the batteries to supply 'starter' power, it will not enabl...

Richcomm Serial driver
..., I'm trying to configure my ups with nut which is a locally made one. It uses a rs232 port to talk to the computer and comes with a software called "Powermanager Lite" which is provided by Richcomm and supports Windows, Linux and UNIX. According to the manual it uses the Richcomm circuitry to talk to the computer and uses a drycontact protocol. Unfortunately I couldn't find any driver for Richcomm serial interface, there's a richcomm_usb however. I've tried all of the genericups drivers and the megatec driver even a USB to Serial converter cable (Prolific chipset) but no...

Any UPS hardware hackers ?
And now for something completely different... :-) And yes, it's off-topic to this particular forum as it's not about NUT development. <ducking> Is there anyone around here who knows his way inside the hardware of an APC Smart-UPS? The APC support division will not reveal _any_ details or service information, and the only descriptive documentation I've found on the Web is in

R for Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial , Civil, etc.)
...ppreciate your feedback and insights gained from such an undertaking. I am not trying to dilute R's primary focus in being a statistical tool, but I would like to make R available to an audience who do not deal with a lot of statistics. Of course, there are other tools for engineering drawing, circuitry design and such others, but maybe there is a niche area (somewhere in between core engineering and statistics) which is yet untapped, and R "might" be of help there. Thank you. Regards Harsh Singhal

TDM400P, fxotune and ADSL filters - Just a FYI, FWIW
...s a DSL filter between this FXO module and the PSTN to break out signal for my DSL modem. I removed it and plugged the FXO straight in to PSTN. After a rerun of ./fxotune -i -m 15 -vv -b 3 -e 4 -t 2 and a ./fxotune -s, ./fxotune -d -b 4 now reveals .026 percent echo! It appears that the DSL filter circuitry affects the .fxotune impedance test to the point that it becomes ineffective (~.05 delta in my case) FWIW, I replaced the filter and reran ./fxotune -d -b 4 and observed a report of .11 percent echo, which I do not trust due to the filter's effect on the circuit. I eagerly removed the aggre...

tuning an x100p in Australia for echo cancellation
..., and for that you need a few different types of test lines from the telco (Telstra, Optus, whatever). Does anyone have any numbers in Australia for such lines? I think they just need to send out a tone of a known frequency and power. Next, while the TDM400 card has control over the line impedence circuitry, the x100p doesn't. Does anyone know of an addon device which can do impedence matching on the line, or of a modification to the card (eg component swapping) which could allow some manual adjustment? Finally, my echo is really really awful early in the call but then gets markedly better, which...

Documenting the NUT driver-qualification process
...ot;bigger is better" when it comes to replacement batteries. I have been buying slightly larger-capacity batteries for several different UPS brands and models, and the effect ranges from confusion about state-of-charge (~2002 350W APC; with battery door, incidentally) to fried battery charging circuitry (350W MGE Evolution). * For testing power failure scenarios, I would use a power strip switch or a circuit breaker before tripping a GFCI. I have no scientific basis for that, just feels better for some reason. * Although you certainly have a point about not letting UPS batteries wither on the sh...

Fenton PowerPal 660 strange reading and issues...
Hi There, i have a strange problem with a fenton powerpal 660. When you switch off the power to the UPS (from the wall), the server (IBM xSeries 203) attached to it dies...However, if you unplug the cable from the server to the UPS and plug it back in again (with the power still out to the UPS), the server starts up again (set to power up after a power failure) and runs with no issues. I have
