Booting legacy Linux kernel in EFI mode
...ar, it requires enabling of `CONFIG_EFI_STUB` configuration variable right? Because although I'm using one of the pre-release versions of `6.02` which should support x32 kernel loading (with x64 UEFI) it still doesn't work for me. (Although I haven't fiddle too much with it.) Ciprian.

Huh... 2.2.8 exploit?!
... By my mistake a 2.2.8a-1 running on RH8 was exposed to the Internet. It was cracked in a matter of hours. I noticed it because they've deleted my smbd. :-| I'm ready to reinstall the machine, if there are any logs that anybody is interested into please say it now.

Preserving ext2-4 attributes
I have searched for this topic on the mailing list and on Google without finding anything. Is this already a well known issue? The problem is that rsync does not preserve ext2-4 attributes (even when using the -a, -A, and -X flags). Note that these are different from extended attributes: Extended attributes are manipulated using programs such as getfattr and setfattr (on Unix-like systems),

HTB - problem with one thread
.... Maybe I need to set quantum manually. I have tested with r2q default value (10) and also with 2 (raising quantum). Another question would be: if quantum is bigger, the client can exceed his limit by that value ? Is that possible all the time or at bursty intervals ? ....0.2 install, that is if you separate the build (output) folder from the source folder, the man files fail to install because they are generated in the output folder, but the install target searches them in the source folder. 2GB limit in Samba?
Hi. Is there such a limit to 2GB in samba 2.2.8a-1? I get a "File imit exceeded" when I try to tar or cp smth to a smbmount. On both machines I can successfully do dd if=/dev/zero and create a file of 3GB, I can also tar -cvf it but no cp to smb. RH8 if it matters...

Strange battery power shortage on an Unitek iZi UPS 525
Hi everyone, I've been using nut 2.0.3 for more than a year on a Unitek iZi UPS 525 (which is a rebadged Mustek). Everything worked fine and last week, when pressed by RENEL :-) I ran a battery test which showed the system to have 17min of back-up power (yes, still haven't figured out how to use upssched...) The system used for testing was an old PIII/500MHz/512KB cache, 256MB RAM (3 x

ipac/iptables + mrtg accounting
...snmpd. Why??? i did catch all the trafic with ipac so no problem here, and i know that ipac/iptables is at level 3, and snmpd is at level 2, but 3 times. A test was a ftp one, the application (opera) show 500KB (4Mbit), snmp 4Mbit, and ipac 1Mbit, average values so what are thinking???? How to "recover" the printer drivers?
Samba 2.2.8a-1, RH8. ... So, I had to reinstall. Fortunately I had a back-up copy. I've installed everything and then went to back-up and brought back all the stuff from /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba and all /etc/cups and /etc/printcap*. Aparently samba is working corectly: All user/machine accounts are in place winbind OK... It's just that although I've restored the /home/printers

Outlook .pst on a samba share; do or don't?
Hi listers. People here are trying to push me into moving the Outlook .psts on a samba share for back-up reasons. I'd like to hear your experience about this: is it feasible in the size of 20 users with 400...800MB each .pst? Any special settings on samba side? Something special that I should pay attention to? Or is just "NO"?

Maybe this will make it to the FAQ :-)
Hi Arjen, I've just read the FAQ and got to the question: "Q: How can I make upsmon shut down my system after some fixed interval?" Well it looked like the question was there for me. :-) You say: Ask yourself this: why buy a nice big UPS with the matching battery and corresponding runtime and then shutdown early? If anything, I'd rather have a few more minutes running on
