[CIFS] mount error(13): Permission denied
...the device runs on FOSS and there is no manual,
whether that is in fact the case is unclear. I simply haven't been able to
make it work except with security = share.
A developer on IRC told me how to get extra debug info:
http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/Linux/messages-suse131CIFSfailure7proc-fs-cifs-cifsFYI.txt
He said it smells like regression/fallout from removal of security = share
and will look at it more after sleeping. Anyone else want to comment? Is this
the right place to discuss?

major cifs bug in 2.6.19+?
Hi there
(I've reported this to the linux-cifs list and received no response, so
now I'm trying here)
I just tried upgrading a CentOS-4.4 server we have from it's 2.6.18
kernel to 2.6.19 and then 2.6.20 - but in both cases it broke Linux cifs
support.
We have a Win2K3 server that needs to be mounted under Linux, and under
2.6.18 (or WindowsXP/etc), a particular directory is

smbstatus shows the connection as NT1.
DFS links do work like this:
serverA_msdfsrootYES => serverB_msdfsrootNO
But not like this:
serverA_msdfsrootYES => serverB_msdfsrootYES
Somehow the destination having 'msdfsroot yes' prevents the cifs kernel
module from

Bug in kernel-space samba client (3.0.23a) on FC5 (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5)
...lient machine, and access the 'Music'
share first, then that one will successfully mount,
but the 'Pictures' share won't.
The only information in /var/log/messages is:
Jul 31 15:48:33 talisker kernel: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount
failed w/return code = -1
Echoing 1 into /proc/fs/cifs/cifsFYI produces no more
output in the log (this used to work in FC3 - how does
one produce more debugging data now?). Disabling
linux extensions doesn't change the behaviour.
I will add that this is an improvement over the result
on my FC3 machine, where even one share cannot be
mounted using cifs....

all connections closed if user gives wrong pwd (#long posting inside)
Hi list,
i have a problem mounting shares on a single client with diffrent usernames. if any user on the client gives a wrong password all existing cifs mounts are closed by the server.
Since this problem occured in a productive environment i set up a testing env and tried to keep it as easy as can be:
Servername: serverA
Servicename1: home1
Servicename2: home2
Clientname: clientA

Cannot access WD's NetCenter drive from linux
...are to my linux machine, it occasionally
works. So, for a very short bit of time (on the order
of a minute), the access works correctly.
I found through google that mounting using cifs should
allow me to gather more debugging info on the client
side (since I can do 'echo 1 >
/proc/fs/cifs/cifsFYI'). So I tried to mount my share
using 'mount -t cifs'. Unfortunately, this fails with
return code -1. I think this is because the mount is
trying to do user-level authentication (since it
correctly sends my share-level password, but also
reports to the server that the user is 'ro...

Re: [linux-cifs-client] Mounting directories below share level
...ject than I am, but my limited tests on our
system haven't been able to cifs mount a share that I don't have rights to.
As I said in my mail of 7th March, I can "mount -t smb" a share that I have
no rights to; however I cannot "mount -t cifs" the same share. If I set
cifsFYI to 1, I get the attached information logged through syslog. I
assume, naively, that it is the cifs_read_inode that generates the
ACCESS_DENIED error.
Just to save going back up the thread, the command I tried was:
mount -t cifs //ip.address/UserShare1$ /mnt -v -o

Files over 4GB not listing properly. Cannot get CIFSworking.
Put this in the wrong thread, sorry!
UPDATE: I've realized that this seems to be an issue with the compiler flags used to build samba.
I've realized that i need to define _LARGEFILE_SOURCE, _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE, and _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64.
I've done this, but still have no luck reading files larger than 4GB. Anyone have suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt

Samba 3 + Win2k = Headache
I have a feeling I may have lost focus on the issue in some of my
previous messages... so here's my dilemma.
I have several Windows (2000 and XP) clients, and several Linux (Red Hat
Enterprise 3, 2.4.21 kernel) clients. I've got a couple servers, one is
currently Windows 2000 Server, and one is Linux (same as above, with the
snapshot Samba running). I want to be able to have users log
