I am trying to get Samba 3.4.0 (on an Ubuntu 9.10 box) set up as a file server for my home. The router is 10.1.10.1; the Ubuntu box ("chronicles") is 10.1.10.2; the OS X box I'm using for testing purposes ("job") is 10.1.10.3. From job, I can see ports 139 and 445 on chronicles are open. Neither box has 'chronicles' or 'job' listed in its /etc/hosts file.

XP Slow Downloading files
I have added a Samba 3 machine as a BDC and used the net rpc vampire command to copy all of the users and machines. For some reason, only Windows XP clients are slow when downloading files from the Samba BDC. NT and 2000 clients are fine. When an XP client uploads a file, it takes almost no time at all. I've been searching but haven't found any answers. Here is my smb.conf [global]

Problems running Uru
I was able to install both Myst V as well as URU: Complete Chronicles. I had to install a few DLLs but other than that, it went pretty smoothly. I'm able to run Uru.exe using wine. It launches, and a menu screen appears. Console output at this point is: Code: wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Ubi\ Soft/Cyan\ Worlds/Myst\ Uru\ Complete\ Chronicles/Uru.exe

learning.kicks-ass.org
Hey Campers, Here''s a tiny little app I wrote shortly after SXSW this year. http://learning.kicks-ass.org/ Click on the big red *RANDOM* button for some mild amusement. The idea came from Heath Row over a dinner conversation as chronicled here: http://h3athrow.blogspot.com/2008/03/learning-kicks.html The source code is here: http://github.com/beppu/learning/tree/master It''s in the public domain... and I figured that it would be a good sample application to look at for anyone getting started w/ Camping. I''m us...

OT- Re: ext3 filesystems larger than 8TB
I was basing that on the fact that she had secured Russian citizenship for her children prior to the divorce, but I cannot get the complete details as I just don't have the time these days to follow any story in great length. I still stand behind the idea that it was a case of accidental manslaughter that was attempted to be covered up. Is there a court tv mailing list out there? -Ross

Solstice Reborn, it works! (almost)
I installed Solstice reborn on my Linux Mint LXDE. I already have .net framework 2.0 and mono installed as well as directx 9.0. I overwrote mscore in wine libraries also. Now when I start the game it opens and there is an error message. I minimize it and a terminal like screen appears chronicling the loading process of SR. The game window pops up, the mouse changes to the game mouse, the

Way OT Re: OT- Re: ext3 filesystems larger than 8TB
Ahm, it wasn't money that influenced the OJ case, it was, race, coupled with incompetence on the side of the prosecution. Now if Reiser had kept his mouth shut he might have just been acquitted. He had a good attorney, that attorney gave him sound advise and he chose to ignore it anyways. I also believe if he had confessed to what happened he would have received manslaughter, though after

Re: [R] Hmisc and Design libraries
Great news! Having spent a significant amount of time porting/mantaining some packages on S4/Splus 5.x and R, I'm interested in your experience as you port Hmisc and Design; I'd like to know of your progress in order to help improve available R/Splus portability tools both at the C and the S language code. These tools include the package SLanguage written by John Chambers, and
