chkdsk in wine
My external hard drive is formatted with NTFS. The linux support for NTFS is fairly good nowadays, but there is not a complete replacement for chkdsk (as far as I know). So I was wondering: anyone could use chkdsk in wine? it is at least theoretically possible? I tried the obvious: I copied from an old WinXP cd the files chkdsk.exe, ifsutil.dll and ulib.dll. I symlinked the external drive in the dosdevices directory and started wine chkdsk e...

Windows guest skipping chkdsk if using Spice display
Hi all, as per subject, when a Windows guest using a Spice display is rebooted with a planned chkdsk, the consistency check is always skipped. It seems that the Spice display issues some "phantom" keystrokes, which are then intended by Windows as the "skip chkdsk at boot" signal. I tried to use a Spice display with no additional features (ie: USB redirection), but to no ava...

...c:\windows\system32\drivers\xenpci.sys 2. Reboot (or shutdown then xm restart) 3. Windows runs with the old version - pre the copy. The old version is absolutely nowhere on the harddisk. Repeat steps 1-3 as many times as you like. 4. Reboot into Recovery mode (eg off the windows boot cd) and run a chkdsk 5. All works again Invoking chkdsk from windows to tell windows to chkdsk on the next reboot doesn''t work - the chkdsk is skipped until the chkdsk from the recovery CD is run, then after that the chkdsk I requested from windows is run on the next boot. I have a couple of very vague theor...

fsck and guest images
...e pro's and con's of fsck'ing the volume containing /var/lib/libvirt/images. Could fsck make a change to the underlying file system that the guest images are stored on, which the guest operating system may not be able to handle when it runs its own file system maintenance, i.e. fsck or chkdsk. Is file system maintenance on the hypervisor volume storing the VM images redundant to the VM's own file system consistancy utilities. Regards, Jamie Ian Fargen

Dual boot with Windows 8.1, UEFI
...- continue, troubleshoot, turn off. "continue" goes to a splash screen like "attempting to repair" which fails. "troubleshoot" has a command prompt option. That's running Windows cmd.exe in one of the other partitions, mounted as X: In that, I find commands "chkdsk", "diskpart", "bootrec", "bcdedit" etc. To cut an even longer story short, I did something like: X:\ diskpart diskpart> select disk 0 diskpart> select partition 4 (the NTFS system one) diskpart> set id=ebd0a0a2-b9e5-4433-87c0-68b6b72699c7 X:\ bcdedit /set...

Re: libguestfs on proxmox
Unfortunately I cannot use the latest version of libguestfs therefore I am stuck with the 1.20 since the newest versions need augeas 1.0.0 where debian wheezy has only 0.7 in it’s repository. But I will try to compile the ocaml 4.01 and see what is the result. Keresztes Péter-Zoltán zozo@z0z0.tk I haven’t lost my mind, I know exactly where I left it. On 01 Jul 2014, at 18:19, Richard W.M. Write to NT Share from Unix, possible ?
Hi All, we have been using OMNI-NFS software to share a PC share out to a Unix bos. The Unix box places files on the PC, but the OMNI-NFS software keeps crashing and occasionally will not restart at all even after rebooting the machine and performing ChkDsk/Scandisks. We would like to replace this with something else, anybody know if Samba can help here? Any help even small would be most appreciated! Thanks Darren

Its GUI also offers much-finer granularity than...

Need a Centos 6 USB hard drive recovery procedure
My 15GB backup USB drive somehow got "corrupted" such that a "chkdsk /f E:" on WinXP removed the file allocation table (or whatever) making the NTFS drive appear empty. I tried Windows Recuva freeware to recover the files, and it has been working for 24 hours; but it has dumped about 65,000 files into a separate flat Windows directory. http://www3.picturepush...

Re: This QEMU doesn't support the LSI 53C895A SCSI controller
...ning virt-win-reg, and I traced back the cause to the unclean NTFS shutdown/mounting. Adding a supported controller will prevent any issue: even with an unclean shutdown, the machine will boot and replay its NTFS journal. If needed, it can also run the proper Windows filesystem checking tool (chkdsk) which is, as far I know, better positioned to correct any filesystem problem. Am I missing something?
