Apache not running Fcgid
I''m having the same problems as this fellow, Mr. Cheetham, in getting my rails app up and running on apache2+fcgid. Webrick runs, but dispatch.fcgi never actually runs, and apache spits out a grusome "Premature end of script headers: dispatch.cgi" error message in the log. Stripping HTML tags from a string
Hello, Is there a common way of stripping html tags from a string? Right now I''m just calling gsub!(/<.*?>/, ''''), but with a background in PHP and always having used its strip_tags() method, I wonder if the Rails community has standardized this fairly common task with something a bit less simpleminded than my quick fix. Thanks! Zack -------------- next part

Ticket/Issue support system
Hi I am looking for a Open Source RoR-based system for handling support issues for our customers. I needs to be simple so that the end user easily can add support issues. We also need to administer the issues (assign to developer/support person), schedule, and list issues (tickets). I have found SimpleTickets, which seems to be a good alternative, but I would like to know if any one else out

What is the license of generated code?
I''m trying to figure out what the software license would be for code (scaffolds, etc) generated by Rails. Basically, if I set up a Rails project, can or should I be able to claim copyright (and therefore have the ability to license under e.g. GPL) over the files generated by :- - The "rails" command that creates the initial tree of files - The output of "generate

newbie: Scaffold doesn''t pickup DB changes
I''m following along with the depot example in ''Agile Web Development'' and ran into a problem with Scaffold. I changed the MySQL table structure to add a few columns directly and also tried the migrate script to change the database after I got the initial scaffolding to work. However, I can''t seem to get the new columns to show up and am stumped as to how I can

Instant Rails speed on my puter..
Hi. I''ve installed Instant Rails, and when testing my rails apps, I''m noticing the load time is quite noticable. I''m concerned when I convert to real produciton, going live, if there''s going to be the same delay, plus additional bandwith traveling time. I am running on a pentium 4.. Insights on speed.. Interactive debugging of rails models
Hi, How can I debug the models interactively? When I load the console using "ruby script/console", the changes in the models doesn''t get reflected. I have exit the console and reload the console everytime I make some changes. Is there a better way? Thanks, Hari -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Escaping Arithmetic Symbols
Could someone please tell me how to escape the ''division'' arithmetic symbol in a model or controller? I''ve searched around and cannot find a solution. I''ve got the following in my model: def avg_risk t = 0 self.audits.each{|key| t = t + key.control_rating } t = t / self.audits.count #this line doesn''t work... I''ve even

plotrix and prettyR
Hi folks, Both plotrix and prettyR have been updated. plotrix now has the "Matlab" style dotplot that was requested not long ago on the list, provided by that intrepid duo, Barry Rowlingson and Rolf Turner. Mike Cheetham has contributed an implementation of the Piper diagram, also in response to a request. prettyR has finally learned how to display SPSS value labels in the xtab and brkdn functions if they are there. I would like to know if anyone finds a problem with this feature as it took some time to pick t...

Upgrading R on my EEE PC netbook
I have been successfully been using R on my EEE PC for some while now. Although it uses Xandros I have been able to install various pieces of software by pretending that it was Debian etch. Johannes was kind enough to continue providing binaries on CRAN for a while but I think I am the only person still living in the past as CRAN etch is currently stuck at 2.11.0 and I cannot rely on him to

DHH''s Post on Ruby Talk -- Rails 1.1.5: Mandatory security patch (and other tidbits)
We''re still hard at work on Rails 1.2, which features all the new dandy REST stuff and more, but a serious security concern has come to our attention that needed to be addressed sooner than the release of 1.2 would allow. So here''s Rails 1.1.5! This is a MANDATORY upgrade for anyone not running on a very recent edge (which isn''t affected by this). If you have a public
