Problem printing from NT to printer attached to LInux box
I installed Samba 2.2.2 on my Linux box. The smb.conf file is as shown below. The permission on /var/spool/lpd/lp is set to 755; ie, it is writable only by the owner, which is lp. With the setup as is, when I try to print from the NT machine, the smb log on the Linux box indicates the following error: " print_job_start: insufficient permissions to open spool file /var/spool/lpd/lp". Windows client refuses multiple print copies when printing to samba printer
Hello I have got the following problem: My Samba printer doesn't allow multiple copies, when trying to print from a client machine. (Unix printing works fine with multple copies). When I enter more than one copy into the "number of copies" field on a WinXP client machine, I get the error message "This printer cannot print the specified amount of copies. The amount of copies is

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey, I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from the admin account when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment and all they want to do is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at the server Is there a way to do it? I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the driver

Samba - cannot print multiple copies
...n FreeBSD, it still leaves stuff in the spool directory. I use lprm - to flush it Things I've setup: - using the default lpd.conf and lpd.perms files. - not running passwords or custom freebsd users on samba. Strictly guest access by user nobody. - set up mode 1777 on the samba print dir - Ran checkpc -f -V. No problems. Had an old problem of not being able to access /dev/lpt0 but I fixed the access privilages (still wierd that we have to do that, the freebsd installed lpr didn't require that, why does lprng require changing the port's access rights?) - I can print multiple copies fro...

Slow Samba Printer initialisation, status, and printing
...find_response_record: response packet id 31803 received with no matching record. But this only shows when server is started. The initial browse to host and open also takes a fair while (~10secs), are these delays normal ? Is there something I've configure wrong ? Any all help appreciated. checkpc produces no errors, and lprng directly from the server to the printers takes neglible time (less than 3 secs to printer receiving data). smb.conf follows: # Global parameters [global] workgroup = MDU server string = New MDU Print Server security = SERVER encry...

Printing from Linux to an NT printer
Hello, Samba team! I am very new to Linux and Samba, so probably my problem is that I need to study more Linux basic concepts, but in the meanwhile, I need to get this working: I have to print from a Linux Suse 7.2 box, where I have installed Samba, to a printer connected to an NT box. I have found things written for printing the other way around, but not too much this way. I defined a printer

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under HP-UX 11i. In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday afternoon. When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted, Samba spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

one printer doesn't print under samba
...I have included my smb.conf and printcap files below for reference. I have made no changes to lpr.perm and lpr.conf since installation and I have not used the Turboprintcfg utililty because it doesn't work properly for me. I've tried troubleshooting in various ways, including running checkpc for lprng, testparm, testprn(sp?), logging on/off and nothing. Help would be greatly appreciated. Printing issue
I'm trying to setup a print server for Samba clients to use. I have a HP LaserJet 4 connected to /dev/lp0 and I'm using the LPRng spooling package. Documents printed from Windows clients make it to the printer. However the printed documents, mostly Excel/Word documents, have various abberations on them. Graphical flaws, the text seems fine. In addition I seem to get 2 copies for some

Fw: Spool directory permissions for printing
Hello, I am new to Linux and Samba. I am trying to print from a W98 box to a Linux printer. I am using Suse 7.2 and Samba 2.2.8a., and Linux is acting as a PDC. I created a user in Linux and put it in the users group and the lp group. The only way I got this user to print was changing the spool directory permissions (and all the files within it) from 0600 to 0770. BUT when I restarted Linux today,

2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while troubleshooting my printer setup problems. 1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3 debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors. Upping it to level-10, I saw something that pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744, the chmod errors went away.
