check_oem_password: Incorrect password length
I'm currently investigating the appearance of this error message for a significant number of our users' password change attempts. It would seem from my research that this error occurs when the data coming from the SamOEMhash function is not of the expected format/value. I do not know if this would be due to incorrect data being sent into the SamOEMhash function from the client or something

...39;2.2.3a-15' I can use the previous smbpasswd binary from the same version on the client linux machine to smbpasswd -r and change user passwords, but the new version from 3.0.14a does not work against the 2.2.3a version. I tried various configuration changes in the smb.conf that I was using to no avail -- I tried all the hash tuning and lanman auth options...

Windows client password change error?
...ner. Using the Windows control panel, Passwords, I am only allowed to change the password by first changing the existing password to a blank password and then changing the blank password to the desired password. If I try to change the password directly I generate the error "smbd/chgpasswd.c:check_oem_password(693) check_oem_password: incorrect password length (2143573292)." in the clients log. I am using Slackware 7.1 and Samba-2.0.7. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks Loren caldwell@gnumax.com
