How to purchase R on CD
My organization has a policy against "installing software downloaded from the Internet." There is a waiver procedure, but it is difficult and lengthy. It is much easier to get approval to purchase software, even if it is a CD copy of open-source. However, a search on r-project.org didn't seem to show any way of obtaining the distribution in this way. Any clues would be

How can you buy R?
Hi all, This may seem like a dumb question, but I work for an entity that is soon converting to XP across the board, and I will lose the ability to install software on my own. The entity has a policy of only using software that has been purchased and "properly licensed" (whatever that means). This means I will soon lose the ability to use R at work - something I can't do without

no controlling tty
...permissions on /dev/tty between the this system, and another where I am not having the problem I see that /dev/tty wants to be world writeable. I don't know if this is the best case, but it seems most my boxes have this. The system I got that didn't have this set was Essential Debian from CheapBytes, which had similar odd settings like read-only /dev/null and /tmp I hope this helps. Geoff Cummins

rgdal under windows?
Hi, Has anyone had any joy getting the rgdal package to compile under windows? I've been trying with MinGW using Duncan Murdoch's Rtools but to no avail. After unpacking the tarball I put it here: D:\rw1091\src\library\rgdal>ls DESCRIPTION R configure inst man INDEX cleanup configure.in install.R src And then tried:

R-1.6.1 is released
I've rolled up R-1.6.1.tgz a short while ago. This is a minor upgrade, fixing an assortment of minor bugs, and one major one: 1.6.0 introduced a memory leak in deparsing, causing much trouble for people running simulations. You can get it from the developer site at http://cvs.r-project.org/pub/CRAN/src/base/R-1.6.1.tgz or wait for it to be mirrored at a CRAN site near you. Binaries for

Need the CentOS 4.3 i386 ISO
Hi all, I'm trying to rebuild a pretty old server. For this, I need a copy of the CentOS 4.3 i386 DVD ISO, ideally. The torrent on the CentOS vault is not working... Does anyone have a copy of: CentOS-4.3-i386-binDVD.iso (md5sum: ca5ccf17951f4b4ef0460c7847e0f2ac) Kicking around? I'd be much obliged if I could get a copy. :) -- Digimer E-Mail: digimer at

Query, possible quick fix??
...udes Java and OO for both OS versions, for 99 cents plus about $1.50 shipping, I ordered 3, and at that price, you pay the same for shipping for each CD. I think it's http://www.edmunds-enterprises.com/linux/cart.php though you might have to start at the home page. I do not know if www.cheapbytes.com has Open Office with all the same stuff on it, or not, but they charge a little more. http://www.ooodocs.org/modules.php?name=Forums is a support forum. http://www.ooodocs.org/ of course is home page. I cannot say OO is a perfect replacement, though it did most of the tech stuff. The Win...
