stripe alignment consideration for btrfs on RAID5
Hiya, is there any recommendation out there to setup a btrfs FS on top of hardware or software raid5 or raid6 wrt stripe/stride alignment? From mkfs.btrfs, it doesn''t look like there''s much that can be adjusted that would help, and what I''m asking might not even make sense for btrfs but I thought I''d just ask. Thanks, Stephane -- To unsubscribe from this

Shorewall, TPROXY, Transparent Squid and Multiples ISP
Hello, I wonder if someone could use the TPROXY with Shorewall and transparent Squid  with using the routing rules on shorewall (tcrules) for hosts / networks (LAN) with multiples providers (WANs) directly from the internal network on port 80 (with TPROXY transparent squid or REDIRECT). On this issue, the routing rules is not work propertly because the source is the

btrfs-delalloc - threaded?
Hi all. I was doing some testing with writing out data to a BTFS filesystem with the compress-force option. With 1 program running, I saw btfs-delalloc taking about 1 CPU worth of time, much as could be expected. I then started up 2 programs at the same time, writing data to the BTRFS volume. btrfs-delalloc still only used 1 CPU worth of time. Is btrfs-delalloc threaded, to where it can use

Compiling Dovecot
Just found out about Dovecot and it seems to work great. My problem is that it compiles and runs on Redhat just fine. On the other hand it compiles on suse and solaris but will not work. When I start dovecot it silently stops running. No entries in the log or anything. Are there any specific instructions for compiling it on solaris x86 using gcc. Thanks

wrong values in "df" and "btrfs filesystem df"
Hallo, linux-btrfs, First I create an array of 2 disks with mkfs.btrfs -d raid0 -m raid1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdd1 and mount it at /srv/MM. Then I fill it with about 1,6 TByte. And then I add /dev/sde1 via btrfs device add /dev/sde1 /srv/MM btrfs filesystem balance /srv/MM (it run about 20 hours) Then I work on it, copy some new files, delete some old files - all works well. Only df

btrfs balancing start - and stop?
Hi, My company is testing btrfs (kernel 2.6.38) on a slave MySQL database server with a 195Gb filesystem (of which about 123Gb is used). So far, we''re quite impressed with the performance. Our database loads are high, and if filesystem performance wasn''t good, MySQL replication wouldn''t be able to keep up and the slave latency would begin to climb. This though, is

about rsyncing of block devices
Hiya, I can see it's a regular subject on this list. I, like others wanted to use rsync to synchronise two block devices (as it happens one lvm volume and one nbd device served by qemu-img on a remote host from a qcow2 disk image so that I can keep the old versions) As I couldn't find any report of it being done successfully, I'm just sharing my findings as it might benefit others.
