Hi All, I'm wondering whether there is a quick way to know the position of a specific charcater in a long character: for example frg="((D:41.04,I:41.04):45.05,(((E:2.32,((G:0.67,J:0.67):0.44,H:1.11):1.21)" and I would like to know that the 1st, 2nd, 26th, 27th, 28th ... character is "(", is there a quick way to do that? ...I used the follwomg: df$pch_type = recode(df$type, "1 = 'A'; 2 = 'B'; else = '21' " ) plot(df$Y,df$X,pch= df$pch_type) This plots subjects for type 1 and 2 with symbols A and B (this is what expected) however subjects with type = 3 are plotted with a charcater 2 instead of a pch=21. I understand that this is due to the fact that the created vector "type_pch" cannot be a mixture between characters and numerics ... I tried to use a list for that purpsoe but fail... Hello, Using the dataset below I produce a soil.texture plot (R code for this included at the end). One will notice I have plotted the points based on whether or not they are in a region called 'upstream' or 'downstream'. I'm curious if there is a way to somehow extract counts of the number of points (red points and blue points) falling within each classification (e.g. silty
