How to switch from internal DNS to Bind
Hello, I'm attempting to switch from the internal DNS to Bind. This is for my Samba test environment on a VM running Samba 4.3.1 on Ubuntu server 12.04.1. Installed Samba using all the defaults. ./configure make make install Pulled up the wiki link https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend#Changing_from_Samba_Internal_DNS_to_BIND_DLZ Not sure if this is the correct start page. After the introduction I see the link "Setup Bind". I figure I need to start there? So I click the link and in the introduction I see another link for "Setup_a_basic_BIND_installation"....

DNS backend on samba4 nt4 style
Hello guys, It is possible to work with the "dns-backend = SAMBA_INTERNAL" in Samba4 NT4 style? I followed the link below, but there was some errors. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend Errors: *# samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL* *lpcfg_load: refreshing parameters from /etc/samba/smb.conf* *params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file "/etc/samba/smb.conf"* *Reading domain information* *lpcfg_load: refreshing parameters from /etc/samba/smb.conf*...

[samba_upgradedns] Error parsing DNS data
...(yet) find documentation that applies to my situation. I think I have read something before about moving away from flat files but I can't find info online nor in my notes. I have found the following information but it seems not to be applicable to my situation: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend And I have spent quite some time online but could not figure out if I have to manually upgrade (and how) or that I can run a script. Could you please point me into the right direction? Many thanks. Kind regards, Bouke -- This message (and any associated files) may contain confidential and/o...

Switching to Bind from Samba Internal
Hello, Looking to switch to Bind. Currently using Ubuntu 12.04 with Samba 4.1.13 compiled from tar. I'm a little confused on creating the localhost zone file section. Do I replace 'localhost' with the IP address of my Samba DC or do I really use the localhost address? This same question applies to the '0.0.127.in.addr.arpa' zone file. I guess I'm having a hard

Changing DC from external to internal DNS
I set up two AD DC with external bind and it used to work for a while. Following a Bind9 upgrade named complained about missing SOA and NS records in the DLZ zones and could not be started anymore. Monday, due to a misinterpretation of some queries, I restarted Bind on the hitherto working system and I got the same error messages. No nothing changed - no changes in configuration, no updates.

Problem with one User after upgrade to 4.5.0
...mba wiki ? I never was using the internal DNS server. I provisioned using BIND_DLZ back when I created the DC on 4.0.x. I never had a problem until more recently when the DNS didn't update after making changes using samba-tool. That is where I found the wiki https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend and followed the instructions there. The missing element I think is server services -dns I have always been using the AD backend with winbind from day one to get the UNIX attributes. It has worked just fine. > I wouldn't bother changing your uidNumber attributes, now you have it > w...

DNS backend on samba4 nt4 style
...in Samba4 > NT4 style? In a word, *NO* A classic NT4 style domain does not have a DNS server built in, your server could use Bind9 or similar, but it wouldn't be part of samba. ...ssfully for many months. On a test system running an AD (server role = active directory domain controller) samba dies shortly after starting if I use Type=notify, only Type=forking is successful at keeping it running. Another strange oddity, referencing the page @ https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend#Changing_from_Samba_Internal_DNS_to_BIND_DLZ it appears that using that the "dns" entry in "server services" , either plain or prepended with a + or - has some bearing on whether or not one is using the internal DNS or BIND_DLZ. As I provisioned with BIND_DLZ I run fine with &qu...

samba_upgradedns seg fault - Samba 4.4.5
Hi, I'm having the following issue when trying to switch from samba_internal to bind9_dlz. I have been following the procedure here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend#Changing_from_Samba_Internal_DNS_to_BIND_DLZ I get the following: [root at dc2 ~]# /usr/local/sbin/samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ Reading domain information Segmentation fault (core dumped) The system is running Freebsd 11.0-RC2. DNS problems
I'm running my AD now, but testing some things dependent on DNS does not seem to be working. Our server is setup in our cnpapers.net domain and was provisioned using Internal Samba DNS. The forwarder is set properly, and almost everything resolves. The forwarder DNS server only has a subset of zones we use on it and it forwards requests to our public/real DNS server. So a request would
