Wrong behaviour in pdb_get_set.c: pdb_get_pass_can_change_time?
...e then tried to set the smabaPwdCanChange time somewhere in the future,
but had to see, that samba didn't honored the given value.
I then got the source, looked at the logs with an high log level and
searched my way though it to two important functions, when it comes to
changing passwords:
1) change_oem_password (smbd/chgpasswd.c):
It seems this is the function that is called upon a user changes it's
password from a windows box. And it's there that some strange things
start to happen:
It calls pdb_gat_pass_can_change_time to get the time, but before this
time is checked, pdb_get_pass_can_change (p...

shadowLastChange problem with Samba+OpenLDAP
...is fine except the
shadowLastChange field is never updated when shadowMax is nonzero.
So the password age feature is not functioning as expected.
2. Later I found shadowLastChange could be updated by smbldap-passwd, so I
changed
'unix password sync' from no to yes. In this case, change_oem_password()
will
return NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED when the passwords are actually good.
I did a little trace and found that smbldap-passwd exited when getting
the
new password when invoked as 'passwd program' by samba.
How can I make shadowLastChange updated correctly? Anybody with any...

unix password sync problems!
I have been trying for hours to get the unix password sync going properly
with Samba 1.9.18p4 running on FreeBSD 2.2.5
I have compiled Samba with the ALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD option enabled.
I created the smbpasswd file as ENCRYPTION.txt states, and can set
passwords as root.
However, when a user tries changing their password, it doesn't work.
The error reported is:

debugging 'unix password sync'
...no problem, probably a bad chat script (it's Solarisx86 2.5.1).
I looked in my log files (log.<machine>, log.smb, log.nmb), and there was no
chat script debug information. I did try and put a zero-length 'old' password
on Win95 to see what it would do, and all I saw was a 'change_oem_password:
incorrect password length' message in log.<machine>.
Are there other steps required to get chat logging to work?
Thanks in advance, eh?

changing smbpasswd password rules
Where does smbpasswd get its password rules from? I need to change them!
I need to allow for passwords as short as 3 characters.
I've changed my unix rules to allow users using passwd to change their
password correctly but samba will not.
I'm using encrypted passwords so min password length = 3 doesn't do
anything, right?
I keep getting RAP86 errors and the log says password too

A very strange SWAT: unix and samba password
...ast password change: Mar 26, 2012.
I try to change password from SWAT again today (Mar 26), and surely SWAT says:
machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : Account restriction.
The passwd has NOT been changed.
In /var/log/log.smbd:

2012 15:33:30 SGT
This is the funny thing begins:
- Unix account is changed by SWAT. But the Last password change is still Mar 25.
- Samba account not changed. But after 1 minute (I think), samba
password is changed too. Match t...

Cannot change expired password
I have a samba PDC set up and configured. I have been doing tests and
everything was working fine. I was able to set "User must change
password" to today's date and it would prompt the user that their
password has expired when logging into windows xp. I could then enter a
new password and be on my way. Now when I set the password to "User must
change password", when I
