Your thoughts on "Enterprise Rails"
Hello and happy holidays, everyone!
I received the book "Enterprise Rails" by Dan Chak as a Christmas gift
and started reading it; I wanted to gauge the community''s thoughts on
this. Basically, Mr. Chak advocates a totally different approach to
how every other Rails book/tutorial explains how to develop Rails
applications.
Firstly, he advocates you organize your ap...

Heck, a conforming implementation of printf could read from any of
these globals, so you don't even need other modules.

Thanks for your reply. So, we don't do any "use" check (for globals
variables) beyond a module scope. If so, it answers my question.

[LLVMdev] clang with -emit-llvm
Hello,
I have just started using llvm. I was trying to debug how *clang* generates
IR for very simple C testcases (few assignments and if-condsitions).
To get a hold on the basic functions, I put some break points on following
functions but debugger *didn't stop*:
llvm::BasicBlock::Create
llvm::BinaryOperator::CreateAdd (design has binary op)
llvm::Value::Value
llvm::BranchInst::Create

RAM saving plugins
Thought I''d put in a plug for some plugins I noticed the other day.
http://pennysmalls.com/
slim attribute plugin
purports to ''lazy load'' your AR attributes, so if you never use that
description, it never gets loaded. Looks nice.
http://blog.chak.org/tag/hash/
hash_extension plugin
Allows for you to retrieve hashes instead of instantiated AR modes.
Program.find_as_hashes(:first)
>> {:id => 4, :name => "fred"} # a hash--saves on RAM, speed is much
faster for creation and lookup, I''d imagine.
Cheers!

[LLVMdev] Compiler opt is turned off ?
Since a, b, and c are globals, how does the optimize *know* they are not
used elsewhere (e.g. another module)?

[LLVMdev] Compiler opt is turned off ?
Hello,
I was trying to run few testcases and see how llvm optmizes different
scenarios. I have a small testcase like:
#include <stdio.h>
int a, b, c;
int
main()
{
a = b + c;
c = a;
if (a == b)
b = c;
else
b = a;
printf( " a = %d \n ", a );
return 0;
}
The corresponding llvm IR is ( clang test.c -S -emit-llvm -o -

Join Tables
I just have a few questions about join tables. From my understanding
the following applies (correct me if I''m wrong):
1.Join tables are always named with the names of the two associated
tables, in alphabetical order, separated by an underscore.
2.The foreign key fields are named with the name of the table they are
referencing, with _id appended.
3.The foreign key is referencing a

Namespacing Models
Hello everyone,
Do you feel it? The little shiver down your spine when you think of
"namespacing" in rails? To some thats a common feeling, to people like
myself who enforce absolute organization have already thought about
the need for namespaces in rails.
Now I do understand this is an ongoing effort... to some degree.
Controllers and routes, from my experiences work well, that being,

[LLVMdev] How to generate 32 Bit executable ?
Hello,
I have a very simple input llvm IR file. I wanted to generate a 32-BIT
a.out executable from this, but, couldn't make it. By default it is 64 BIT.
Is there any way to dictate it from the input LLVM file or I am missing
anything.
The command I used : clang test.ll
I tried playing with "target datalayout" but no success yet.
Thanks.

Separating models, controllers, etc. into subdirectories
I''d like to organize my models, controllers, helpers, and even toplevel
view directories into subdirectories. There are so many files in my
rails app that it is getting unwieldy to find files in a list. Is there
a correct way to do this so that things don''t break? I tried putting
the model files in subdirectories; some pages seemed to work (models
loaded fine), while
