Select distinict on not chainable with order method
Hi.
I would like to do code refactoring:
@beers = []
Beer.all.each do |beer|
unless @beers.find{|c| c.brand_id == beer.brand_id}
@beers << beer
end
break if @beers.size > 29
end
So I achieved this by writing scope (on PostgreSQL):
scope :with_unique_brand, select("DISTINCT ON (beers.brand_id)
beers.*")
Using this scope alone is working

Performance tweak when local files are not served by mongrel
Hello Zed !
I''ve experimented a simple but limited performance tweak in the mongrel
rails loader.
With the following apache 2.2 mod proxy loadbalancer setup :
# Redirect all non-static requests to cluster
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ balancer://mongrel_cluster%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L]
We can assume that mongrel is called only when the

ssh-agent decrypt
moronic monday (pst) question time.
this may have been covered elsewhere, and emphatically shot down (and
if so, I apologize), but I'm interested in using ssh-agent to decrypt
data.
ssh certificates are the most secure user auth token we have, and even
though ssh certs aren't chainable, we routinely use them to assert
identity to things other than ssh (eg. if you can present a cert
that's signed by a known ca, and you can prove you have the private
key that belongs to the cert, we know who you are).
So it'd be nice to be able to give some data back to the client,
encryp...

A quick guide to Mocha
Hello :)
Having just gone through the (admittedly simple) API of Mocha to learn
how it works, I wrote a quick guide (190 lines) to help others get up to
speed. I''ve attached it as RDOC and as HTML.
It is a first draft - please help me improve by giving feedback !
Contents :
Overview - Quick overview of Mocha
Unit testing, mock object and stubs - Very quick introduction to mock

Gapless concatenation of Opus frames
Hi all,
I finally understand how lipopusenc is capable of producing chainable
Opus files (in contrast to my program), and I managed to successfully
implement the method [1].
Essentially, the last frame of a file is marked as a "keyframe" by
disabling prediction for this frame in libopus. This encoded keyframe
frame is then copied in verbatim to the next file, wit...

...delays and
all, but it should be doable. IOW, it should be possible to reset the
encoder before the keyframe, provided you pre-fill it correctly.
Cheers,
Jean-Marc

Prepared SQL statements
Dear all great developers.
I wonder if there is any work being done or thoughts being shared
regarding prepared SQL statements.
Currently I am in heavy need of tuning SQL INSERTS that insert large
(3MB) images into blobs.
I am using rails 2.3.5 with postgres adapter and pg driver.
Any information would be appreciated.

Gapless concatenation of Opus frames
Hi Jean-Mark,
thank you for your answer!
Yes, you understood my question correctly. I was just about to compose
a reply to my original question, where I described how I solved my
problem. As you've already suggested, I've switched to Ogg/Opus, which
is better supported, but does not work with the Media Source Extensions.
I'll have a look whether disabling prediction will help with
