CHAID in R
Hi..I am trying to run CHAID in R..I have installed the sofyware Party and trying to use the function ctree() to carry out the analysis. but I am getting the following message Error in terms.default(formula, data = data) : no terms component . I am having some Likert scale variable where I have variables like "Overall sat...

Extract a predictors form constparty object (CHAID output) in R
I have a large dataset (questionnaire results) of mostly categorical variables. I have tested for dependency between the variables using chi-square test. There are an incomprehensible number of dependencies. I used the chaid() function in the CHAID package to detect interactions and separate out (what I hope to be) the underlying structure of these dependencies for each variable. What typically happens is that the chi-square test will reveal a large number of dependencies (say 10-20) for a variable and the chaid functi...

Seeking Code for Chaid or Similar
...better place for questions like these, please let me know! Dear R List, I'm interested in modifying a regression tree algorithm to use the difference between a control and a dosed sample as its dependent variable. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find code to implement a basic chaid algorithm. Is it possible to access the code inside of R? Is there another place I can find the basic algorithm already coded. I'd prefer a chaid-like algorithm over a c&rt like algorithm, as my sample is small. I'm a reasonably good programmer, a background in C++ and experienc...

AID and CHAID: news about?
Dear R-helpers, I just search if is there something for AID and CHAID in R: one message in this list (last year) without success and no possibility. News about? If "no" let's me know because some friends are looking for thesis and this could be a usefull job. bye -- Daniele Medri

AID / Tree Analysis in R
Dear Colleagues, I've been looking for a function that can perform a tree analysis, similar to CHAID or QUEST. The key point is that in this case the variables are not binary but nominal (10 different values), so "tree" (from the tree package) won't work. Does anybody know help? Trees
Hi., I would like to conduct a CHAID tree analysis - Chi-square Automatic Interaction Detector. >From what I can make out from MASS, tree, rpart, and a quick search it isn't available as a package. Is that correct or have I missed it? Has anyone an available implementation of it? Thanks Stephen Nana Mail <http://m...

[SoC09-Idea] Party On!
...ds, and can, in principle, capture all trees mentioned. But going beyond that, it can also accommodate multi-way or functional splits, as well as complex models in (leaf) nodes. We aim at making more recursive partitioning methods available to the R community. A first step in this direction is the CHAID package (also hosted on R-Forge). Much more prominent procedures come to mind, for example exhaustive CHAID, C4.5, GUIDE, CRUISE, LOTUS, and many others. Students can choose among these and other recursive partitioning methods they want to implement based on the partykit infrastructure. Required...

Node Information - Decision Trees
Hi All, I need to access the node informations (viz. child nodes, split variable, split criterion etc.) for different trees packages like, CHAID, rpart, party etc. Is there an in-built function which I can use to get the requied info? Thanks a lot in advance!! Regards Ashish Kumar [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

(Heuristic?) salient feature selection
Dear all, I am new to R and statistics really in general. I am hoping that someone will be able to point me in the right direction and/or suggest a technique/package/reference that will help me with the following. I have: Some input variables (integers, real) Some output variables (integers, real) and I want to find out which between the two correlate best - i.e. the salient features. I

Filling Lists or Arrays of variable dimensions
Following problem: Say you have a bunch of parameters and want to produce results for all combinations of those: height<-c("high","low") width<-c("slim","wide") then what i used to do was something like this: l<-list() for(h in height){ l[[h]]<-list() for(w in width){ l[[h]][[w]] <- doSomething() } } Now those parameters aren't

Kmeans cluster analysis
Hello, I have a data-set containing 22 variables, after appropriate transformations etc I ran a kmeans cluster analysis for 4 clusters , I ran it 20 times to find a result with the lowest within sum of squares. My question is how best do I go about finding out what the characteristics are of each cluster? Is one cluster dominated by a particular set of variables or by a particular

Recursive partitioning algorithms in R vs. alia
Dear R-helpers, I had a conversation with a guy working in a "business intelligence" department at a major Spanish bank. They rely on recursive partitioning methods to rank customers according to certain criteria. They use both SAS EM and Salford Systems' CART. I have used package R part in the past, but I could not provide any kind of feature comparison or the like as I have no

Ordinal categorical data with GLM
Hello All: I am trying to replicate the results of an example found in Alan Agresti's "Categorical Data Analysis" on pages 267-269. The example is one of a 2 x 2 cross-classification table of ordinal counts: job satisfaction and income. I am able to get Agresti's results for the independence model (G^2 = 12.03 with df = 9) assuming as he does that the data is nominal, but
