Home Lan computer browser(s)
Reading this list makes me think my questions are child's play for ya'll. */1) //Should I have more than one "computer browser" on my lan /*/(~16 machines)/*/?/* I'd read someplace that I should have 1 primary and 1 backup computer browser for up to 32 computers and then another backup browser for each additional 32 computers. IF this is true then I'd still like to

remote browse sync triggers error Packet send failed
...net - print server on 10.10.0.0/16 subnet A Samba server (10.1.10.24) is a master browser on subnet 10.1 and another Samba server (10.10.31.73) is a master browser on subnet 10.10 each server has only one network interface on its subnet. So referring to https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch07.html I thought the remote browse sync would allow any SMB Client (including Mac) with 10.1.10.24 as WINS server to also list the browse list from subnet 10.10 ? smb.conf WINS config on 10.1.10.24: wins support = yes dns proxy = yes local master = yes os level = 255 preferred master = yes remote b...

Putting demo shell scripts, text files, and RScript files with a package?
I've written a package to assist with using R in Hadoop Streaming. The main point of the package is to help make command-line runnable RScript files. I'd like to provide a demo RScript file, a demo data file (e.g. a plaintext file, not something already processed by R) , as well as demo bash shell scripts that demonstrate how to run the job from the command line and in a Hadoop

CentOS7 changes strike again.
Still in the process of migrating from an old CentOS5 server to a brand new CentOS7. After finally getting Virtualbox-5.0 installed and a new Wondoze10 Pro installed it became time to shift the data from the old server to the new. The old server is headless and I installed the old WindozeXP into the Virtualbox4.x via the command line. To do some of the admin I needed to attach to the windoze

the observed "log odds" in logistic regression
Dear list: After reading the following two links: http://luna.cas.usf.edu/~mbrannic/files/regression/Logistic.html http://www.tufts.edu/~gdallal/logistic.htm I've known the mathematical basis for logistic regression. However I am still not so sure about the "logit " For a categorical independent variable, It is easy to understand the procedures how "log

where is "average shifted histogram"?
Hello! In the book Modern Applied Statistics with S (4th ed), section 5.6 the concept of the "average shifted histogram" or ASH is mentionend. Also it is mentioned in the same section "The code used is in the scripts for this chapter" (from figure caption 5.8, analysis of the geyser duration data). *However*, I have trouble finding the code for that function! Admittedly, I am a

LD50 and SE in GLMM (lmer)
Hi All! I am desperately needing some help figuring out how to calculate LD50 with a GLMM (probit link) or, more importantly, the standard error of the LD50. I conducted a cold temperature experiment and am trying to assess after how long 50% of the insects had died (I had 3 different instars (non significant fixed effect) and several different blocks (I did 4 replicates at a time)=

SeBackupPrivilege
We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp); everything works more or less fine, it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc. We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read certain files from those
