inches to centimeters in Graph settings
Hi R users,
I made a few research on how to convert inches into centimeters for graphics
settings (especially width and height of the graphic device).
Apart from the function layout() wich can be settled in centimeters using
lcm(), I found that writing a function that convert centimeters into inches
(i.e. x/2.54) was probably the best answer.
Is there somewhere any...

Thanks a lot

measurement unit
Dear R-list,
Could anybody tell me where to find information about changing the measurement
unit from inch to centimeters?
I read the help from X11, I read R-intro and I did some searhing in the R
archives, but I couldn't find the answer.
For example, I would like to produce a plot of a certain width and height:
X11(width=10, height=5)
and I would like these to be centimeters, rather than inches.
Thank you...

Help -normal distribution
Hi , can any one help in this problem
According to some study, the height for Northern European adult males is
normally distributed with an average of 181 centimeter and a standard
deviation of 7.3 centimeter. Suppose such an adult male is randomly chosen.
Let X be height of that person. The next 3 questions correspond to this
information. The answer may be rounded up to 3 decimal places of the actual
value.
The middle 60% of heights fall between what tw...

plot scale
Hi,
Is there a way to set the scale of a plot (i.e. number of axis units
per centimeter) when you output it to postscript? If not, how am I
supposed to plot graphs with different axis limits to the same scale?
They just get resized to fit the paper so that graphs which show a
smaller number of axis units end up with a larger scale.
Cheers,
Ben

superscript text on graph legend
Is that possible to create superscript text on the graph legend, for example
to put "cm2" (centimeter square) on the legend. Please show me how to do it.
Thanks.

Adding units to levelplot's colorkey
How to add units (e.g. "cm") to the color key of a lattice levelplot?
The plots looks fantastic, but it would be nice to indicate somewhere
near the end of the color key that the values associated with its colors
are in centimeters or some other physical units.
The only thing I find is the possibility to specify the labels so that
one explicitly includes the units. That leaves little flexibility for
positioning where this information appears. Is there a better way?

Suggested tidying up
Package grDevices has a function cm() to convert from inches to centimeters. Its definition is:
cm <- function(x) 2.54*x
As far as I can tell, the function is not used anywhere in the R sources (I grepped for "cm(", "cm)" and ", cm".) I did not check for all packages on CRAN, though.
May I propose to remove this apparently useless fun...

cph/nomogram Design/RMS package hazard ratio: interquartile vs per unit
...mands in Dr.
Harrell's Design/RMS package. The HR that I obtain for dichotomous and
categorical variables are identical to those that I obtain using STATA
stcox. However, the inter-quartile HR I obtain for continuous variables is
obviously different, since STATA gives me HR for each unit (year,
centimeter, etc) like coxph would give. My question is if this will effect
the output of the nomogram. I'm assuming that nomogram is constructed using
hazard between each unit rather than quartiles - is this true?
Also, I've found that I do not need to create indicator variables for my
categorical...

dnorm Line Plot Graphics
Hello,
1. I have a number of snow depth measurements (centimeters depth) that were acquired in a row (linear transect).

Bootstrap 95% confidence intervals for splines
...ormal linear regression model would be:
nonconfusing_regression <- lm(HD ~ WL)
One might use a spline,
confusion_inducing_regression_with_spline <- lm(HD ~ ns(WL, df = 4) )
Now is where the problem starts.
>From nonconfusing_regression , I get, say 2 added hot dogs per week for each
centimeter of waistline along with a s.e. of 0.5 hot dogs per week, which I
multiply by 1.96 to garner each side of the 95% c.i.
If I want to show what the difference between the 75th percentile (say 100
cm) and 25th percentile (say 80 cm) waistlines are, I multiply 2 by
100-80=20 and get 40 hot dogs per we...

I''ve setup in a local branch of my office two servers, say radagast

Network devices are in another room, not UPSes, and so if there''s a

Also this two servers share a samba domain, and the syncronize each

So i''ve thinked...

draw a 5cm x 3cm rectangle
Hi I want to draw sth in a pdf file with a predefined defined size.
Say a 5cm x 3cm rectangle (a ruler):
pdf("rect.pdf", paper="a4")
plot(c(1,5,5,1,1),c(1,1,3,3,1),asp=1,axes="n")
dev.off()
but how do I fix that one unit is 1cm?
Thanks
