Drive use in wine
I'm running Wine release 20011004 and have created the floppy and CDs drives for my floppy, CD and CDRW. I am automounting the devices. 1. I've noticed that if I don't have a floppy or CD in the drive wine ignores it and even if I insert a disk later the app (notepad) never sees it. 2. I have two CDs, one a Creative DVD and the other a Plextor CDRW, and I've created the entries...

Direct access to SCSI cdrw
Hello, I tried to install Yamaha cdrw at FreeBSD 5.1. At 4.8 stable all was Ok. Now I have in kernel configuration sym device. But cdrecord shows message "No such file or directory. USB DVD/CDRW not automounting
I 'just' noticed that my USB DVD/CDRW is not automounting in my Centos 5 installs. Various USB drives do: USB flash drives, USB multi card drives, and USB IDE converters. I can issue a: mnt /dev/cdrom /media but why is this needed?

Hardware recommendations for XEN
...ecifically recommended for Xen? (I am going to assemble the computer myself anyway). Will I get any advantage from using a dual-core CPU? Hyperthreading CPU? Intel vs. AMD vs. whatever else? If not, then perhaps I'll be looking for older (and cheaper) CPU/motherboards. Is it possible to use a CDRW drive for writing CDs from DomU if the drive is on the same IDE controller as other harddrives are? If there have already been discussions on these topics please send me links. Please cc your replies to golubovsky@gmail.com Thank you. -- Dimitry Golubovsky Anywhere on the Web ________________...

cdrw firmware update
Hello, I need to do a firmware update for my cdrw and because of a missing linux program for doing that I thought of using wine for trying it. I call the programm FlashTool.exe and no error messages occur. (The surface really looks great!) The programm detects correctly the flashable cdrw-drive even with ide-scsi and the non-flashable cdrom. But t...

CDRW and DVDRW support in Centos 4.4
HI, I configured a minimum install on Centos 4.4 and then added postfix+dovecot+openwebmail I want to use Mondo Rescue (disaster recovery solution) and the program needs CD-R/RW and DVD-+R/RW support. What are the packages required to install via yum to provide support for the creation of CD/DVD? I know mkisofs and cdrecord are two of them, what others? thanks, --

ISO burning challenge -- pilgrims progress
...rs on the Centos 5 system. Even the Centos 4 system had a SCSI error (0x7000). I did find ONE mention of "cdrecord: Cannot get disk type": http://crashrecovery.org/oss-dvd/Changelog.html but that is dated 2/2/06. One would think it is fixed in Centos 5..... I have NOT gotten the HP CDRW working yet, that is the one I want to leave on the server, as the Storix is my traveling drive. More work. Any pointers gladly taken! I REALLY want to move my CD processes to Centos. I want a GUI interface and want to rip and burn music CDs as well.....

OT: How many watts do I need?
Hello all, Sorry for the OT thing. I'm helping a friend setting up a new box. It's a Pentium 4 with 430Watt power supply. He wants to plugin his old harddrives and DVD into the new box. The total will be: 3 harddrives, 1 DVD drive, 1 CDRW drive. In the box there are also 2 big fans. Is 430Watt enough? Install stops seeing USB CDrom
I have sought information on this in the past. I have a decTOP that I can install DSL on with no trouble from my USB DVD/CDRW drive. Centos won't. Neither 4.4 or 5.0 The boot starts, the CD is being read. After I respond to language, it stops saying it can't find the CD. If I go the linux askmethod approach, I can 'see' it loading the install image from the CD, it goes through the language part. Th...
