therefore cause a link failure when building the SNMP drivers, if SNMP
is enabled.
(Fortunately for me, I don't need to use SNMP and was able to avoid the
problem by simply adding --without-snmp.)

New NUT user with HP R3000XR problem

Error: Connection failure: Connection refused
Am I using the correct cable here? If not, what's the correct cable to
use?
If I am already using the correct cable, I'm presuming this means my
UPS's RS232 module is toast.
Thanks.

suddenly dropped to around 40% charge after several days, with brand new
batteries, and just stay there? The battery pack voltage is nominal, so
I can't very well have had one of the new cells fail unexpectedly.

Chemoinformatic people
Dear colleague,
Just an e-mail to know if they are people working in the field of chemoinformatic that are using R in their work. If yes I was wondering if we couldn't exchange tips and tricks about the use of R in this area ?
Best regards

An example of using rJava
I have received a few private emails asking for some simple
demonstration of calling Java code from R using the rJava package
(which can be installed directly inside R). Here is one example for
convolving two vectors (an example in the R manual about linking C with
R).
First write a Java program
public class my_convolve
{
public static double[] convolve(double[] a, double[] b)

Pipeline pilot fingerprint package
Hi,
I am trying to see if I can use R to perform more rigorous regression analysis. I wonder if the fingerprint package is able to handle pipeline pilot fingerprints (ECFC6 etc) now.
Thank you,
Eric

Possible ssh -D bug in 5.8p1 (on Gentoo Linux)
...ly, then stop responding within 30 seconds
to a minute, and the ssh process would not die on a SIGTERM, requiring a
SIGKILL. When I backed out to 5.7p1 and restarted my tunnels again, the
ssh -D tunnel worked again. The two ssh -L tunnels continued to work
normally.

Is anyone familiar with this problem?

FYI: HP R3000XR
...far, has
kept them within a couple of percentage points of full ever since
(charge level is fluctuating between about 98.3% and 100%).
So, it appears NUT doesn't have to recalibrate in any way after swapping
out a battery pack; but the UPS itself DOES need to reset.

Final R3000XR tip
...rge the battery pack fully, then let it slowly
self-discharge. After FORCING it to switch to the new battery pack for
a minute or so, it now appears to be properly maintaining tha batteries
at full charge.
Surely it can't have been *intended* to work this way....

Need to Write a Code that can find the molecular weight of various compounds
Hi!
Just started working at a lab and have only minimal experience with R.
I was wondering if there was a way to write a code that would intake a data
set of chemical compounds (ex: H2O, CH3)
and be able to give an output column of the molecular weight?
I tried some really basic coding to try to work with a being a matrix of
data with the assigned variables.

Partial authentication
Hello,
I would like to bring up the topic of possibly including partial
authentication functionality into OpneSSH again - it was discussed a few
weeks ago. I believe that implementing auth vectors was suggested as a way
to achieve this.
The reasoning behind the need for partial auth is that there are cases when
multiple methods of authentication are required for the user to be
successfully

question on authentication
Hi there,
I am trying to come up with a solution to the current Samba authentication
voes on the gateway server for our distributed file system. We currently
use smbpasswd file on the gateway server for authentication, which is not a
secure way and requires each user to be specifically added in.
I do not have much experience with Samba, so I am still learning quite a bit
