cuesheets w/ PERFORMER & TITLE track info
...any specific reason for ignoring TITLE and PERFORMER info when
importing CD-TEXT cuesheets into flac files? (These two fields have not
always been used but they have become widely supported by now). One may
answer that the preferred method for getting this kind of info for a
cuesheet-flac would be CDDB, but CDDB info is not always reliable.
In my opinion the goal "Now a CD can be completely backed up to a single
FLAC file for archival" has not been reached as long as this metadata is
incomplete.
Since there is no standardization for metadatablocks in flac files
containing multiple track...

Stop K3B CDDB Popup
On CentOS 5.4 I just installed K3B to write some
CDs. Now every time I used a CD, I get a popup
that asks me to "Select a CDDB entry ...".
How can I stop this popup?
Thanks,
Mike,

k3b -> cddb doesn't work
Copying a CD with k3b is no problem, except I want to include on my copy
the cbbd data (from freedb.org). I've configured k3b's cddb section
according to instructions at <http://www.freedb.org/en/faq.3.html#15>
and read every article google could find about "k3b cddb freedb.org
config", but still k3b can't manage it. Grip handles getting the cddb
data just fine. I'm beginning to think that k3b is si...

My vision of how the players should work is this:
- make one album.flac with CUESHEET
- player loads album.flac, sees CUESHEET, calculates CDDB id
(or CDindex, or custom hash), looks up metadata in database
- player presents album.flac as separate tracks
- playlists can reference individual tracks in album.flac

failed exaile install
I'm trying to install the exaile package on my newly upgraded CentOS 6.4 machine.
It fails (see below) with missing dependencies on python-cddb and gnome-python2-gtkmozembed.
I found this thread but there does not seem to be any resolution. \
Has anyone got this installed?
Am I missing a repo?
Thanks,
Steve

ripper+ogger+cddb for windows?
Hi,
A short question: what program for windows
can rip, ogg at "-q 4.99" and tag correctly
based on cddb ? (rc3 or better ofcourse)
I need this to encode over 1000 CDs with
10 people who will each do 100.
I have a simple perl script for linux to do
this (if someone wants it you can have it)
but that's not an options for these windows
users.
I never use windows, so I don't know, so
I ask here...

Fwd: what about storing free-cddb-id in comments inside .ogg ?
Is there a standard field inside OGG comments to save freedb-id of the
original CD, which track was grabbed from?
If not, may this be a little wish for Ogg Vorbis format specification?

backing up comments
All this talk about vorbis comments has made me think.
Would it be possible to create backups of the Vorbis comments for my vorbis collection (currently about 1850 files) ?
Instead of having to make sure I enter the correct details into CDex (saving in to cdplayer.ini & backing up that), or if I have comments in the Vorbis files that aren't stored in cdplayer.ini, such as the tags

ID3-style information
...However, I need its ID3 information. I need the client program (i.e.,
XMMS) to be able to look at a file and know its artist and title. Those
are the only two required fields, as a matter of fact.
Generally, in order to program my MP3 files with appropriate information,
I use GRIP's built-in CDDB connectivity. I would use the CDDB
connectivity for setting the information in FLAC as well. If necessary, I
can write a wrapper that puts the information in a file through an outside
utility. But I would need the outside utility, and I would need support
in FLAC.
I could use file names to appr...

album portion of the tags request
...ed it from some
particular album. An alternative is to add yet another new tag to say
which album the track was taken from, but I don't think the solution is
even more tags (although I admit that is the extent of my disagreement with
this solution).
Another alternative then is to use some CDDB or Songprint/Musicbrainz entry
to identify the song. I object to CDDB being in the tags because a CDDB
entry is a computer-id and not a human id. That's what we will have the
structured metadata (which has yet to be designed) for - computer data,
non-human type data (among other things) t...

FLAC CD Archive
I have read some posts about using FLAC to archive CD collections and
would like to get some feedback. I am torn between creating a bin and
cue file with CDDB info and compressing that down with FLAC as a single
file or the second method of ripping all the files out to wav and
converting to FLAC and maybe saving the cue file in attempt to use it later.
The first method I believe will pretty much insure the ability to
restore the CD faithful to the origi...

The method I was using was this one I found through google - all in one

cdrdao read-cd --with-cddb --datafile album.bin album.toc
cueconvert album.toc album.cue
flac --endian=big --sign=signed --channels=2 --bps=16
--sample-rate=44100 --cuesheet=album.cue album.bin

I guess right now I need to go and try both methods. If I can help with

Major Security Vulnerabilities in Remote CD Databases
...When I started examining XMCD I thought the scope of problems it may
result in was limited to it running as an suid root program on the local
host. It seems the extent that it may compromise the vulnerability of your
host may extend far beyond that. The handling of input returned from a remote
cddbd server appears suspect with respect to buffer handling, meaning that
if a cddb server has had its security compromised, it could return false
responses to database queries that could result in a buffer overflow allowing
the cddb server to execute arbitrary code on your machine. Because of the
