If you are running icecast2 on linux you can handle bandwidth limitations
using QoS
more specificly iproute2.
That way icecast2 doesnt have to take up extra resources to handle
bandwidth limitations.
resources here

Now if your on windows then Microsoft says it handles bandwidth better than
linux and is cheaper than linux
so i guess QoS works automagikly ;) then again i think linux just works the

Bandwidth limiting
Since shapecfg is no longer part of the distro what are people using in
place of cbq to limit/throttle bandwidth? I have an ftp mirror that, if
left unchecked, will suck up the entire bandwidth of the CoLo site.
TIA,
Joe

QoS on CentOS 4
Hello,
I'm looking for a (relatively) simple way to help shape upload
connections on my firewall box (CentOS 4 + iptables). Does anyone know
of any packages, other than wondershaper, that do this?
thanks!

...ny "drop in the bucket application" so to speak for QoS
and streaming audio, but bandwidth is bandwidth
either way you dice it up, once you dig into QoS on linux there so much more
you can do efficiently and effectivly.
give this script a shot
http://aleron.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/cbqinit/cbq.init-v0.7.3
follow the intstructions, ive tested it on icecast2 and shoutcast sports and
dports
works like a charm.
takes some reading and playing with but none the less its a great script to
get started.
What would be even cooler is to see icecast2 handle certain QoS options
instead of just

Open Source QoS .
My router (1605R) currently does not support QoS. Is there any open source
software available so that I can set one up before the router?

Traffic shaping on CentOS
I've been trying to do traffic shaping on one of my public servers and
after reading up, it seems like the way to do so is via tc/htb.
However, most of the documentation seems at least half a decade old
with nothing new recently.
Furthermore, trying to get documentation on tc filters turned up a
blank. man tc refers to a tc-filters (8) but trying to man that gives
a no such page/section

asterisk on mini-itx
Hello,
I'm trying to put together a low cost - low powers PBX appliance for several
customers. I have purchased a couple of the soekris net4801 boards and have
asterisk up and running on them fine but they just don't quite cut it in the
processing power department. I've been able to get about 10 simultaneous SIP
calls with simple ulaw (no encoding decoding). While this might be OK for
