Plotting league tables/ caterpillar plots
Dear list, I was wondering if there is a function to plot league tables, sometimes also known as "caterpillar plots"? A league table is conceptually very similar to a box plot. One difference is that the inter-quartile ranges are not shown. If there isn't such a function a first attempt for a "selfmade" plot would be to tell boxplot not to plot boxes (sounds silly

[RFC PATCH] Decrease Metadata Fragment Using A Caterpillar Band Method
I made an attempt to partly decrease fragment by using a preallocated area of multiple size of a std blocksize for a tree block when it is COWed. The basic idea is that if any a tree block need to be created, we offer, say, 2 or 4 multiples of a std blocksize for it, then use the first block in the continuous blocks. When this block need a cow in the future, a new free block in these continuous

3-dimensional table
Hi, Last week my class conducted an experiment by putting out clay caterpillars to look at the effects of urbanization, color, and location on caterpillar predation. There were two sites (urban, rural), three colors (green, yellow, red) and two locations at each site (edge, interior). The entire data set is below. I've checked out the MASS book, Dalgaard's book, and...

Problems with Samba 2.0.6 under Solaris 7
We've inadvertently discovered a bug in the client_name function when our dns was temporarily damaged. We have a "hosts allow" function that has IP addresses only to contrain mounts to within our network. When clients would attempt to connect, if their reverse IP lookup failed - in theory just to log the name of the connecting host, the originating IP address was being mangled and

help with randomisation test...
...eeky, but I do have a R Problem. I hope that some of you like to play around with R and can help me. Its like this. I have several plant species (A,B,C) and 10 replicates per species. 5 plants per species are damaged, 5 not. I let a caterpillar feed on each plant and measured the growth of the caterpillars on control plants (CR) and on damaged plants (DR). The difference, DR-CR is an indicator for induced resistance IR. The data could look like this...just as an example. Species Control_CR Damage_DR A 10 2 A 9 3 A 7 4 A 9 2 A 8 3 B 5 4 B 6 3 B 4 2 B 5 4 B 6 3 C 8 1 C 6 2 C 4 4 C 7 1 C 6 2 Now, i...

How to obtain prediction intervals for random effects?
Hello! I wonder how can one get upper and lower limits of a prediction interval -- exact values? They are shown on caterpillar plot using ranef() with argument postVar=TRUE, but I would like to know them. A while ago, some discussions were opened on "Confidence Intervals for Random Effect BLUP's", but the answer was never clear: http://www.mail-archive.com/r-help at

ssh and popen-- broken pipe
Hi, My application uses popen to execute UNIX commands. After I replace rsh with ssh, it stopped working. I have made a test C code to reproduce the problem as attached in this email. In the test program, I called popen for ssh command and then pclose right away. I got the following error: kirk 588$ a.out Write failed flushing stdout buffer. write stdout: Broken pipe Any idea what is

Rails vs. Cocoon
Hello all, I''m hoping that someone out there in Rails-land has developed in both Cocoon and Rails and would like to share their experiences using both application frameworks. I''m going to be doing a presentation in the next couple of days on the advantages that Rails affords. The higher-ups are going to use this info on deciding whether or not to move away from Cocoon and
