http://xapian.org/download RHEL instructions
Hello :-)
The instructions regards Tim Brody's packages are incomplete in that
rpm-eprints-org-key is needed by rpm-eprints-org-xapian-5-1.noarch. The RPM
for rpm-eprints-org-key is at
http://rpm.eprints.org/rpm-eprints-org-key-1-1.noarch.rpm

Crosstabs in R
Before I reinvent the wheel, I have need for a relatively straightforward
crosstabulation (2 x n) function. I know that R has table(), ftable(),
xtabs(), and summary(xtabs()), but none of these produce a fully "tricked"
out cross-tabulation with marginal totals, expected cell frequencies, and
an array of statistics about the contingency table.
Is there a more complete (something

unoconv 0.4 issues
Hello :-)
Implementing unoconv 0.4 as a filter as per
http://trac.xapian.org/ticket/324 has exposed two issues with unoconv. The
first was fixed and is dexscribed here for community benefit; the second is
unresolved.
Software versions: unoconv 0.4 and OOo 3.2.1 OOO320m18 build 9502 on
Slackware64 13.1

Pretty URLs for omega?
Hello :-)
How can the default omega URL be prettified?
http://<host_ID>/cgi-bin/omega is working fine, giving us all omega's
default CGI parameters. Now we want multiple databases which could be
accessed using http://<host_ID>/cgi-bin/omega?DB=<index_ID> but this is
starting to get messy. It will get messier when we start to customise
templates with

For more UI functionality: OmegaScript, C++ or other?
Hello :-)
We have Xapian and Omega working nicely. Now we would like more
functionality at the browser UI, such as being able to specify date ranges
and being able to search the file name including looking only for, say, .odt
files.
Question is whether the best choice for this would be to develop a template
using OmegaScript or to switch to C++ or some other language.

rsync server bootscript - stop and status considerations
Hello :-)
I want to create a boot/shutdown script including the usual restart, start,
status and stop options (on Slackware64 13.1). Netsearching for prior art,
I did not find any comprehensive examples. The normal technique seems to be
to kill the process recorded in the PID file (let's call it the daemon) but
this does not terminate all the rsync server processes.

rsync server: "incoming chmod" usage
Hello :-)
According to my reading of the rsyncd.conf man page, "incoming chmod"
accepts comma-separated "chmod" strings as defined by the chmod(1) man page
optionally prefixed by D or F to make them apply to directories or files.
The local chmod(1) man page does not mention strings. It refers to modes
which may be symbolic or octal/numeric. Accordingly I tried

Report for http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/SupportedPlatforms
Hello :-)
There was probably no good reason to do this build but the Debian 6.0
Squeeze repo version was 1.2.3, we needed 1.2.4 and I didn't think of using
the package from unstable.
Arch: x86_64
Platform: Linux 2.6 Debian 6.0 (Squeeze)
Compiler: gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8)
Version: 1.2.4
Status: no known problems

Many usershare messages logged but no usershares defined
There are many messages about samba usershares in the logs but no
usershares are defined:
# grep '\[2012/03/20' /var/log/samba/log.smbd | grep
process_usershare_file | wc -l
1518
# grep --ignore-case usershare /etc/samba/smb.conf.source /etc/samba
/smb.conf
[no output]
# ls -l /var/lib/samba/usershares/
total 0
The messages are typically like:

Samba audit logging not working as expected
Hi :-)
This is cross-posted from Linux Questions where it has not been answered.
This Samba configuration does not put anything in
/var/log/samba/log.audit as expected. The messages are triplicated into
/var/log/{messages,syslog,user.log}.
Here is the global section of smb.conf created by testparm
smb.conf.source > smb.conf (no error messages)

Apache conf.d file for omega?
Hello :-)
Sorry if this question is na?ve and confused; I'm new to Apache
configuration.
Can Apache be configured to run omega via a file in the conf.d directory
rather than a virtual server?
I have been using a virtual server on port 80 but now need to run nagios
on port 80 too and do not want to ask the users to start using a URL
with a non-standard port for omega. KISS.
AFAIK omega
