[OT] CAT5 IP-capable rackmount KVM units?
...nd it looks like prices on
KVM head units have dropped a bit over the years.
Some of the older units only worked with Windows, Internet Explorer and
ActiveX. Others like the ATEN KH1516i supposedly use Java and are far
better from a cross-platform point of view.
I'm on the fence about the CAT5 cables over the more traditional style,
it seems like the CAT5 cable system would give a lot more flexibility in
dealing with USB vs PS/2 servers (or even serial only?). The bigger
advantage with the CAT5 stuff seems to be fewer length limitations and
less space used in the rack for the head u...

Trivial to do by hand, but I was wondering if there is a means to do it

The obvious medioan(vector) returns the median frequency for the binns,

T1 cable for Digium T1/E1 Cards
Is there any technical difference between a T1 cable and a cat5e patch
cable as far as using them with Digium T1/E1 cards? Can PRI circuits
terminating at a smart jack connect successfully to Digium cards using
straight through CAT5e cables? If so, are they using all of the pins in
the cable?
Thanks in advance

Best echo-free and trouble-free system?
We currently have a 15-phone system using Asterisk, a combination of
analog phones/Grandstream HandyTone-286 and Grandstream BT101s, and 4
X100Ps connected to analog lines. The system works well except for
the occasional echo problem. I have all the echo parameters
configured, removed all the extra incoming analog lines except to the
PBX, etc. following all the advice on the wiki and on the

E1/T1 back to back ??
...on tool I can use to replicate a real world PRI but
without the telco line being installed. And secondly, can I have a scenario
with 2 asterisk servers with digium e1 cards 'back to back' one configured
as the network side and the other configured as the client side (can I just
use a single cat5 straight through cable between them ?? and cant the Digium
e1 cards operate ok in both modes?)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

cat 5 'joiner'? (polycom 500 problem)
What gives with the stupid stupid power system on the Polycom IP500 (I
hope they changed it on the 501's).
Anyway, does anyone know if you can get some type of joiner to connect
two Cat5 cables together, and will this affect the call/signal quality
because my Ethernet cable is longer than the dumb 11ft polycom supply
(oh and their manual is the wrong about which end goes into the handset
end...how bad is that).
Cheers,

Shielding of T1/E1 cables WAS RE: Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
...s cost and weigh more than
triple what they do now. He told me that with the number of twists in
the Cat 5 cable it would cancel out any interference, but he also stated
that the effective length was calculated using a cable with less twists
and subsequently 'less dense' and that if using a Cat5e cable you must
factor that in. so if you use cat5e cable your are fine but you can't go
as far.
Regarding the Smart Jack it is mostly used as a location at the CPE
where the Telco can loop and make sure that the problem is at your end.
So your assumption is correct that you can plug anything...

So my question about a "real" T1 cable isn't specifically about a
crossover cable, although the principle will still apply. I was talking
about using Cat5/5e 4-pair cable (*not* a pre-made Ethernet patch cable,
just Cat5 cable in general) to carry a T1 signal between the
NIU/SmartJack to the CPE. (I could crimp my own or buy them, depending
upon my specific needs. For a short jump I'd probably just fabricate my
own.)
So the question is really...

Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: what cable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
Can't anyone stop self-promotion and tell the poor guy what he needs.
A T1/E1 X-over cable using an RJ-45 (8-cond.) is pinned out as follows:
1 - 4
2 - 5
3 - NU
4 - 1
5 - 2
6 - NU
7 - NU
8 - NU
NU = Not Used
I have not in my experience seen any problems with using a Good Quality
Cat5 vs. Cat 3 (telco standard) cable for X-connects. YMMV, but you
should be fine. As far as the shielding goes, I use UTP cables and
Connectors all the time and some of my X-connects run over 100 feet.

security cameras
I heard about some inexpensive security cameras which get their power
through the same cat5 cable which delivers the data/pictures (which
would simplify wiring tremendously). Does anyone know about these? Do
they work with Linux, particularly CentOS?

B410P - BRI NT 100 Ohm terminator
Hi,
My set up is :
Asterisk with B410P in NT mode <-------------cat5 straight cable

Is the 100 Ohm terminator you can find on B410P boards, necessary when
connecting in NT mode to another PBX (set in TE mode) ?

Is there a sort of high grade cat5 cable that can propagate signals for up

dhcpd errors
...E of 10.1.1.150 from
00:40:63:e5:71:4f via eth0 (not found)
Depending on the thin client, the MAC and the IP changes. Otherwise,
the errors are all the same.
The effect on the thin client end is that it doesn't get an IP, and so
it doesn't boot. The usual remedy is to unplug/plug-in the cat5 cable
at the thin client, or to move the thin client to another network drop.
This has me thinking there's a problem with the cat5 cabling (the office
is going through a major renovation). But, I'm not 100% that is the
case. It could be a problem with the dhcp server.

7960 Dies when network cable connected
Hey All,
I have a user whose Cisco 7960 died the other day. When you disconnect the
Ethernet cable the phone boots (as far as it can w/o network connectivity)
but as soon as you plug in the CAT5 it goes dead. (no lights, no sound, no
display, nothing)
I tried to contact Cisco but they say I have to contact the vendor. I have
sent an email to the vendor (www.thevoipconnection.com) and I am waiting to
hear back from them.
I have asked Google in every possible way I can thing of and I have...

phones with two ethernet ports
Hi there, what phones are available that have two ethernet ports?
I want to do some cabling at a new installation and i heard there are
such phones (SIP i guess) out there. That way i dont have to run two
cat5 to the user desktop.
I think 3COM had one but can't find the web site reference for the two
port phone
thanks,
