extlinux reports "./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4"
...dia/disk /media/disk is device /dev/sda4 ./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4 The extlinux.sys is in fact written to /dev/sdb1 with the present version, the old version does write it to /dev/sda4 and makes the grub boot sector unusable. Explanations / Theories welcome. Casual ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing. Looking for a casual contractor to write R functions and help integrate with Excel
We are a small consulting company that uses R to automate several data extraction fuctions from SPSS files -- most notably we create powerpoint slides from a script in Excel (using VBA) which calls R to extract data and place into Excel using RExcel. We're not specialists, and don't really have the time to understand R. Our CIO is the only person who even vaguely understands R, and he does

Samba server slow down after serving more than casual data
Hello, I am currently running Fedora 15 on an x86_64 system that acts as a whole house server for named, dhcp, nfs, nis, htpp, samba, etc The system is currently running samba-3.5.11-71 with kernel 2.6.40.6-0.fc15.x86_64. The system is fully patched as of today. However, this issue has existed for at least 2 years and I am at a loss to debug it. I have a simple samba configuration for

Requesting unban from irc channel
man_in_shack banned me during a casual conversation where i was explaining my dual x server wine setup, saying I was contradicting myself. I obviously wasn't trying to contradict myself, if I did, and I don't see how this is ban-worthy under any circumstance.

R and Data Storage
...#39;d like to recommend a uniform way for storing and archiving data collected in the department. Most of the data could be stored in simple csv type files but it would be nice to have something that stores more information about the variables and units. netcdf seems like overkill (and not easy for casual users). Same for postgres and mysql databases. Could someone recommend some system for storing relatively small data sets (50-100 variables, <1000 records) that would be reliable, safe, and easy for people to view and edit their data that works nicely with R and is open source? Am I asking for t...

LLD's default --build-id choice
...<https://lists.debian.org/debian-gcc/2009/07/msg00082.html>). Build ID is sometimes useful, particularly when distributing linked objects to users, but in most cases it is not needed. Spending 10% more time on usual build-link-debug cycle is a waste of time. It should not have been added that casually. Anyways, the option is there and passed to the linker, so we have to create and add a build ID if --build-id option is given (we could ignore the option but that's probably very confusing.) So here's my proposal. - Make --build-id=uuid as default for --build-id --build-id=uuid sets...

RHN Up2date Cruft: can I dump it?
Got part 1 - xx of back up working, so figured it's a good time to look for stuff to jettison... casually of course. Like paperwork, documentation, ... it's low on the priority list with GB so cheap these days. Anyway, 42M in /var/spool/up2date. Headers and such. I use only yum after my first month or so of CentOS. Can I dump that and similar non- config stuff? Or does it have some potential us...

...at you call the > system partition will be the one that should have extlinux installed on it. I think in most cases people try to make _some_other_ disk bootable. If I boot with extlinux as the bootloader why should I want to install it again ? Apart from that it would then require -u not -i. Casual On Sa, 2008-01-26 at 19:06 -0800, H. Winbind cache problem after upgrade to 3.0.25b.
...nbindd_cache: clearing cache and re-creating with version number 1 All the winbind UID/GID mappings are lost and it starts again from scratch. Hence all file ownership / ACLs on this samba server become invalid. Anyone else seen this? Why does it see fit to destroy this important file in such a casual manner?! It didn't even bother to make a backup copy. Thanks in advance for any help... [LLVMdev] !!! 3.2 Release branch patching and the Code Owners
...CODE_OWNERS.TXT does not allow to positively identify code owner of the particular file or patch. The problem stems from the usage of the "description (D)" field which is overloaded with meaning. Most people put only a textual description of the code they own. This approach is fine for casual reader but does not work for scripting or any automated way of dealing with the build. I would like to propose addition of the "folder/file (F)" field. The format would be the same as used by Joe,Owen and Justin F: (path/relative/to/llvm/src/root/*) F: (path/relative/to/llvm/src/root...

I used a Sony MDR-V6 pair of headphones and my laptop's oonboard audio. I detected the artifact when I was listening casually from my phone with the same headphones. In the second to last note of the crescendo (at ~5 s in the sample) there's a slight flutter in the original that turns more prominent and tape-like after encoding. I also tried encoding at 128 kbps and 150 kbps. ABX results: - floex-133.opus.wav 10/...

Proposal for New R List: Criticism? Comments?
...How do I do it?" While this certainly gives answers, I think the breadth of r-help and its etiquette and posting conventions result in an abruptness to many of our replies ("Read the posting guide! Read the Help files and do what they say!") that discourages many users -- especially casual ones -- from posting questions, and thus may thus discourage use of R. Clearly, if true, this is not a good thing; on the other hand, I think that given r-help's purpose and practices, many of these abrupt replies may well be appropriate (I'm a curmudgeon at heart!). Hence, there is a mis...

[LLVMdev] About static-profile in llvm-2.8
When I searched for branch frequency profiling on the internet, I got this link by a casual chance: http://homepages.dcc.ufmg.br/~rimsa/tools/stprof-llvm.patch. It seems it was written by Andrei Rimsa. So I downloaded and integrate these files into the llvm-2.8 building. After the building, I tried "opt -static-profile bitcnt_1.bc", and an segment fault error occured. I debugge...
