Using ZFS Case insensitive filesystems with Samba
>> Here's something I learned when working with the FreeNAS folks : >> ZFS can be configured to be case insensitive when >> you create the filesystem (NOTE - cannot be altered >> *after* the filesystem is created). >> zfs create -o casesensitivity=insensitive filesystem In this case, will ZFS preserve capitals in file and directory names if they are so created (/Data instead of /data)? I mean, replicating Windows behavior, which is neither case-sensitive nor case-insensitive but case-preserving. Thank you!

RE: [squid-users] IE improperly prompts for credentials; ntlm_auth with Samba 3.0.13, Squid 2.5.STABLE7, RedHat Linux 9.0, SmartFilter 4.01; ticket number 48293
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOT DOGGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I fixed it. The problem - Squid worked at my test site - it did not popup a login window, but instead used Ssamba's ntlm helper program to get credentials from IE. But at my customer site it did (improperly) popup a login window. The squid.conf files were almost identical - even to the point where my working test site incorrectly

ZFS attributes for CIFS.
Hi all, I''m setting up a new fileserver, and while I''m not planning on enabling CIFS right away, I know I will in the future. I know there are several ZFS properties or attributes that affect how CIFS behaves. I seem to recall that at least one of those needs to be set early (like when the filesystem [or pool?] is created? Which properties might those be? Where can I find

Huge difference in reporting disk usage via du and zfs list. Fragmentation?
Do we have enormous fragmentation here on our X4500 with Solaris 10, ZFS Version 10? What except zfs send/receive can be done to free the fragmented space? One ZFS was used for some month to store some large disk images (each 50GByte large) which are copied there with rsync. This ZFS then reports 6.39TByte usage with zfs list and only 2TByte usage with du. The other ZFS was used for similar

Issue with Samba 3.0.28a and Active Directory
Hi all, 1. We are using Linux kernel 2.6.20.11 64-bit and Samba 3.0.28a 2. We are trying to connect from this linux machine to a Windows ADS running on a separate Windows 2003 system (WINADS machine). 3. Though we are able to retrieve the name of the WINADS machine from linux (We see the name of the machine in samba log file), we are unable to access any of the users in the WINADS

new user cannot logon to one computer in the domain
I run a NT-Domain with samba 3.0.28a and WinXP-Clients (SP3) Everything is fine. But now I created a new user and this new user can logon to all machines in the Domain but one. On this machine the user gets the message "user cannot login. check username/password/domain and be aware that username/password are casesensitive" (I translated this from german) Other users can login fine. rsync takes a long time to start doing any transfers
I want to use rsync with a cloud based rsync provider to do off-site backing up of a large (1TB) dataset which consists of 32 million+ files spread out in 300 directories. So the amount of files in any one directory can be quite large (upwards of 2 million). Rsync doesn't seem to cope with this well - even doing local copies in a directory with several thousands of files takes a long time to
