User directory shares with Samba, Winbind, and Win2k domain - Partial solution
...as well set the desired permissions on the semi public, where the group can see and modify, but the rest of the company can not.
This is how I am trying to make it work with Samba+winbind and Win2k authentication. I hope you are able to find a solution that works for you.

Needed: step-by-step HOW-TO for Smaba and Winbind in mixed environment
I need a document that will walk me (a Samba newbie) through a setup of samba and winbind in a mixed unix/linux/win2k environment. I am also looking for a linux/unix equivalent to 'network neighborhood' on Windows systems for some of my users.
Thanks

User directory shares with Samba, Winbind, and Win2k domain - help deparately needed!
...er, of course, had RW on their own dirs. The Department dir/share was RO to the world.
I would like to recreate this, but am not certain how to, considering the combination of Win2k Domain groups and users with unix/linux users and groups.
Please help and advise.
Thanks

samba ver 2 beta 1 (gaping wide bug)
Please excuse me if this has been covered, but I just noticed something odd
with samba 2 beta 1. If I use smbclient to connect to a passworded resource on
a win machine (I've tried it with 98/95) and I just hit enter for the password,
it lets me in. No questions asked. So, I pretty much have unlimited read
access to stuff I should not be able to get to.
Best Regards.

Rsync and CVS
...t I am unable to find any information on the net on how to set this up. The master server is on a Solaris machine and the slave will be on a linux machine. It would be nice to have bi-directional mirroring, but not a requirement. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Above is my command line, and the failure and code information. What am I missing. I am running this on an RH7.3 system, grabbing files from a Solaris 8 machine. This is my first time working with rsync. Thanks for any help.

Safe Win9x?
I want to install a linux samba server to serve 30 win9x machines. I
want to prevent users from writing on the local drives, they should
have write access only to their home dirs on the samba box. These
users have a nasty habit of deleting crucial system files.
Is it at all possible with win9x and samba? Of course NT workstations
could resolve the problem, but that's not an option with these

Using UNIX passwords
I'm sure this is a FAQ, though I couldn't find it in any FAQ or the docs...
How do I have Samba authenticate users via the local UNIX passwd file?

Winbind/WIn2k domain question
.... Is there a document for this someplace? Have I over looked something in the Samba-HOW-TO collection? I would also like to establish team/department shares as well, with limited R/W based upon 2K groups and RO for others, but user dirs should be R/W user only, etc...

Samba 3
Can/Will anyone suggest where (which file) to get the Samba 3? I am
interested in seeing how well the Win2k AD integration is working.

linux+samba as DC in a win2k network
All,
For a bunch of good reasons ;), my company thinks of getting rid of
our win2k DC and replacing it with a linux RH 7.3 box with samba 2.2.4
or 2.2.5.
Before starting working on that, I would like to gather some basic
informations.
We've got solaris 2.8, linux and win2k clients machines.
LDAP:
I understand that I need to setup an LDAP server which will replace
the win2k Active Directory

dos?
I have an old dos app that doesn't run in the win95 shell very well.
There are problems with the graphics.
Is it possible to connect to a samba server from real dos? I assume the
answer is no but I thought I would check.

I need to see filename in upercase
Because, a bug in a sofware, I need to see (on a NT box) the name of files in upercase. The files are writen by a buggy UNIX process in lowercase.
Any one have idea ?
