scatter3d: problem with spheres-color
Dear List,
I don't get scatter3d to color the sheres according to the '|' argument.
library(car)
scatter3d(prestige ~ income + education|type, data=Prestige)
The spheres on my screen are all colored the same and they are not
conditional on Prestige$type.
On the other hand: Fit3d and Ellipse3d are colored according to the
group argument.

ifelse can't return a list? Please explain (R-2.15.3)
I hope you are doing well.
For me, this was an unexpected problem. I've hoped for quite a few
wrong things today, but I'm only asking you about this one. Why does
ifelse(1, list(a, b, c), list(x, y, z))
return a list with only a, not list(a, b, c) as I hoped. I wish it
would either
cause an error or return the whole list, not just the first thing.
Working example:
> x <- 1

ctree and survival problem
Dear all,
I was intrigued by the ctree command and wanted to check it out. I first ran the demo with example(ctree) and did get the survival graphs in the end. Upon doing this with my own data and yielding a "Invalid operation on a survival time" I tried to rerun example(ctree) and now I also get "Invalid operation on a survival time" after the example runs plot(GBSG2ct)...

vcovHC and arima() output
Dear all,
how can I use vcovHC() to get robust/corrected standard errors from an
arima() output?
I ran an arima model with AR(1) and got the estimate, se, zvalue and
p-value using coeftest(arima.output).
However, I cannot use vcovHC(arima.output) to get corrected standard
errors. It seems vcovHC works only with lm and plm objects?
Is there another way I can get robust/corrected

Windows 7 installation of .qz package from SourceForge
Hello, I'm trying to install the package metRology from SourceForge. I save the zip file metRology_0.9-06.tar.gz to my Windows 7 machine, and try to install the package using the RGUI: Packages > Install packages from local zip files > metRology_0.9-06.tar.gz. There's no .zip extension, but R seems to go to work on the installation with a couple warning messages and one error.

identify object that causes "Error in loadNamespace(name) : there is no package called ‘R.utils’"
Dear all,
I've bumped into the: "Error in loadNamespace(name) : there is no
package called ?R.utils?" error. I've already read a bit on this (
http://www.cybaea.net/Blogs/Data/A-warning-on-the-R-save-format.html )
but I have a follow-up question.
Given a workspace that automatically loads a package that I don't
really need/want (e.g. ?R.utils?), how do I identify which

R 2.12.0 and JGR
Since upgrading to 2.12.0, I'm having trouble getting the JGR to start under Windows 7, but I'm not quite sure what's happening.
When I try to run the JGR.exe stub, the dialog says can't find Java R interface jri.dll. As nearly as I can tell from a Google search this is to be a part of the rJava package which seems to load fine with the library(rJava) command from the Windows R

mgcv:gamm: predict to reflect random s() effects?
Dear useRs,
I am using the gamm function in the mgcv package to model a smooth relationship between a covariate and my dependent variable, while allowing for quantification of the subjectwise variability in the smooths. What I would like to do is to make subjectwise predictions for plotting purposes which account for the random smooth components of the fit.
An example. (sessionInfo() is at

anova of lme objects (model1, model2) gives different results depending on order of models
Hello-
I understand that it's convention, when comparing two models using the
anova function anova(model1, model2), to put the more "complicated" (for
want of a better word) model as the second model. However, I'm using lme
in the nlme package and I've found that the order of the models actually
gives opposite results. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be the case

F-values in nested designs

I'm trying to learn how to fit a nested model in R. I found a toy
example on internet where a dataset that have?3 areas and 4 sites

data, this is the ANOVA table that I got:

[R-pkgs] heplots 0.9-3 and candisc 0.5-18 released to CRAN
I've just released the latest R-Forge versions of heplots 0.9-3 and
candisc 0.5-18 to CRAN.
They should appear there within a day or two.
== heplots
The heplots package provides functions for visualizing hypothesis tests
in multivariate linear models (MANOVA, multivariate multiple regression,
MANCOVA, etc.). They
represent sums-of-squares-and-products matrices for linear hypotheses

basehaz() in package 'Survival' and warnings() with coxph
Hello,
I have a couple of questions with regards to fitting a coxph model to a data
set in R:
I have a very large dataset and wanted to get the baseline hazard using the
basehaz() function in the package : 'survival'.
If I use all the covariates then the output from basehaz(fit), where fit is
a model fit using coxph(), gives 507 unique values for the time and the
corresponding cumulative
