Log entries with truncated service names
Hello all
I am running Samba 3.2.8 over CentOS 5.2, with a LDAP back end.
On some days, not all, strange entries appear in the Samba logs. I get
entries like this:
[2009/03/18 18:35:09, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(1366)
aurora (192.168.0.22) couldn't find service netlogo
The real name of the service is of course "netlogon".
Another example for the share named

Sniffer techniques
As the group knows, I'm having compatibility issues with a critical
database application. It's been wisely suggested that I monitor the
line to see what's up. Problem is: I've never done this before &
suspect others like me are not familiar with these techniques.
I did find an old LinuxWorld article http://tinyurl.com/yrjurx however
I help thinking there is more on the top.

(samba ~ shlight): negprot protocols not 0-terminated
hello,
i'm trying to connect to my samba server from an openbsd system
smbclient works perfectly from the client, but if i try to mount the
share using shlight it refuses the connection and logs:
negprot protocols not 0-terminated
i was unable to find any occurances of this problem,
i've read that the field should contain the host's name as a zero terminated string.

Share name length limit?
I just upgraded an HP-UX 11.23 IA 64 server to Samba 3.5.6, and one of
the shares would not work. It showed up in testparm as valid, but nobody
could connect to it. I shortened the length of the share name from 12 to
8 characters, and it now works.
My pc is running Vista, and authentication is via our domain
controllers.
Is this a limit within Samba, or is it something being imposed by
Windows?

3.6.0: smbclient can't access a NT4 share
Hi,
I upgraded to 3.6.0, but since that time, I can't connect to a share on a NT4
Wks host any more:
# /usr/bin/smbclient //molek-04/lightcycler -U administrator
protocol negotiation failed: NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT
I thought it could be something with 'client ntlmv2 auth", what is 'yes' since
that version. But even if I switch it to 'no' it's the same.

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
@Rowland,
Installing and changing to LTS kernel 5.4.38-1-lts doesn't help.
Downgrading samba and smbclient to 4.11.3 DOES help.
@Andrew, let me first clean up with kernel/samba versions, set log level to
10 and log limit to 0, delete all logs and repeat the whole exercise.
Please advice how to get a network capture, I am not that expert...
Regards, Pawel.

Using the 'WatchSubDirectories' setting in a .NET FileSystemWatcher with a Samba Share
Hi all,
I've just managed to upgrade to Samba 3.3 and am pretty ecstatic about
finding i can now use FileSystemWatcher to watch for file changes in a
directory. On a Windows system however, when I say 'watch $dir' with
watchsubdirectories == true and $dir/a/file.jpg is changed, I get a
filechanged notification - on Samba 3.3 this doesn't happen - does
anyone know if it's

performance problem with 3.2.8: unbuffered reads for some users
Hi!
I'm experiencing strange performance problems after upgrading to samba
3.2.8 from 3.0.30.
For all users except smbadmin (who has administrative rights), read
performance is _very_ bad. Looking at the read-requests using filemon
and wireshark, I found out that for those users, every read is handled
transparently (unbuffered) over the net. (I.e. a 2 byte read-request of

Samba large file support negotiation when accessed via UNC path
I am experiencing a strange problem that I hope someone out there has
experience withf.
We have a large fileserver running samba 3.6 backed by a 12T ext4
filesystem. We keep lots of VMware VMs on the filestore and I am trying to
make some improvements to how we manage/launch/use the VMs. To that end,
I've been trying to launch the VMs via the VMware VIX API by UNC path (not
mapped drive).

at our company we are using Samba 4.3.2 in conjunction with Windows 7.
We use the Windows 7 machines for our nightly compiles. However,

Our standard advise on network packet capture is here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Capture_Packets
Finally, as you are on a rolling distro, can you try Samba master, if
only for giggles?

samba4 dc to adc failover
Hi Samba List!
Used samba3 for years, now it's time for samba4 (thanks!!!)
Unfortunately I am not familiar with certain microsoft concepts about AD
and the roles of domain controllers.
I've got three vm's for my experiments:
1) a samba4 domain controller test1.test.local
2) a samba4 additional domain controller test2 joined to my domain
test.local.
3) a win7 workstation that is
