[LLVMdev] Disabling some JIT optimization?
...ation level of NONE, but that may hurt performance too much.
So, my question is: Is there an option (using either JIT or MCJIT) where I can specify that I want the generated code to be generic enough to run on any version of a 64-bit X86 chip ... without turning off all optimization?
Thanks,
Jim Capps

HEADS UP: Audit integration into CVS in progress, some tree disruption (fwd)
...this stuff? "What's it for?"
I'm sure I promised to answer exactly that question in my followup e-mail once
the integration is done. :-)
The quick answer is that this is an implementation of security event auditing,
as required by the Orange Book C2 and later Common Criteria CAPP security
evaluation/standard. These documents provide specifications for a set of
functional requirements (and assurance requirements) regarding the behavior of
operating systems with respect to security. One of the requirements is the
fine-grained and configurable logging of security-relevan...

I understand that this has come up before and has generally been denied
on the basis that the comment field is arbitrary user input that
shouldn't be trusted.
I agree, but...
I cannot stress strongly enough that this kind of auditing record is a
requirement for any system operating under CAPP and/or NISPOM auditing
guidelines. These guidelines are required in security-sensitive
environments, and they both require that logins need to be tied to a
specific authorized user... not just an unspecified user who happens to
be authorized.
Since we both agree that the comment field isn't...

DSD Approved Products
Hi,
I am considering installing several `servers' in a facility that needs
to conform
with the products listed at: DSD Approved Products
http://www.dsd.gov.au/infosec/evaluation_services/epl/dap.html
As far as i can see freebsd performs above and beyond, for all the required
criteria in the act. Can we see freebsd listed as an approved product in the
near future?
Best Regards,
Jason - RF

Recommended Configuration Control Software?
We have several dozen production Linux servers and I would like to
have better control over what files are changed, by whom, when they
were changed, etc. Because these are all production servers that are
in use 24x7, we do not have the luxury of simply doing a clean build,
taking md5sums of each file, and then doing fresh installations. I
need a system that can take in-place snapshots of each

How to make performance test in samba4
Hi everybody,
I have several VMs running on Xenserver 6.5
I have 2 samba servers (1 DC & 1 Fileserver). They are both running Debian
Linux 8.2 Jessie.
I'm using the samba debian package (4.1.17)
My VM has 8G RAM and 4 vCPU
How can i test if the performances are quite good or not? with
reading/writing
Could I have better performance with the latest samba release?
thanks

Apache RPM's
Hello all,
I love CentOS, but I am seriously regretting selecting Centos 4.4 for my
production hosting servers. The current situation with CentOS 4.4 and being
stuck at Apache 2.0.52 is a huge problem because of the new requirements for
the Credit Card industry PCI scan. Apache 2.0.52 does not pass PCI
compliance scans. which means no ecommerce on any of these servers - MAJOR
ISSUE. So my

First, I hope that this message is not considered flame bait. As someone
who has used FreeBSD for for 5+ years now, I have a genuine interest in

Second, I hope that this message is not taken as any form of insult or
finger pointing. Software without bugs does not exist, and I think we all
know that. Acknowledging that point and working to mitigate the risks

Performance with Sun StorageTek 2540
Under Solaris 10 on a 4 core Sun Ultra 40 with 20GB RAM, I am setting
up a Sun StorageTek 2540 with 12 300GB 15K RPM SAS drives and
connected via load-shared 4Gbit FC links. This week I have tried many
different configurations, using firmware managed RAID, ZFS managed
RAID, and with the controller cache enabled or disabled.
My objective is to obtain the best single-file write performance.
