Replacing one of my Samba DCs
I started with two Samba DCs running 4.14.7 (camus and cristal). I am
replacing them with newer OS and Samba versions with an eye to get
everything current. At this point, I have taken the baby step of adding a
third server running 4.15.13 (frangelico). I have added the new system to
the domain, it is participating as a DC and replication is workin...

Samba 3.0.25b + Vista Printers
Hello there
I've just upgraded our Samba server to 3.0.25b and am still having
problems with Windows Vista clients accessing printers. XP/2000
clients continue to work fine - but Vista refuses to connect to Samba
printers that have drivers hosted on the Samba server.
To clarify, as part of the netlogon batch job, clients attempt to
connect to Samba-hosted printer shares, and if they

SSL certificate state of the union
Hello there,
Since the update with ruby all my puppet function is dead (well known
issue with the cert) . There has been some discutions on the dev list on
how to patch this for future versions. I have read the list and wondered
how we can solve the issue while waiting for the .24. I am in beta test
of the .23.x version but on my production system i wanted to find a way
to solve this now

Oceanographic lattice plots?
R 1.8.0 on Windows XP Professional. A huge THANK YOU to the R Team for
this marvelous software.
I am making lattice plots of oceanographic data. The usual layout does not
conform to plotting conventions that marine scientists use when depth is
the independent variable. Under those conventions, plots are made with the
origin at the upper left, depth on the vertical axis (increasing as it

Dependencies between machines
Hello:
I''ve been reading up on puppet after spending a while on SmartFrog.
SmartFrog''s late binding and ability to encode dependencies between
machines or document parallel or serial configuration steps was
compelling. Java was not. :)
Are there notions of these concepts in puppet that aren''t apparent
from the documentation? Different ways to get to the same

fail2ban firewalld problems with current CentOS 7
Hi!
I have a server running CentOS 7.7 (1908) with all current patches installed.
I think this server should be a quite standard installation with no specialities
On this server I have fail2ban with an apache and openvpn configuration.
I'm using firewalld to manage the firewall rules.
Fail2an is configured to use firewalld:
[root at server ~]# ll /etc/fail2ban/jail.d/

Using resource names in templates...
Hi all,
I''ve been turning my head upside down to find a solution on the
following problem:
I have a samba fileserver and need to make puppet do:
1. Create groups
2. Create directories with group rights
3. Create an smb-shares.conf from a template that can be included in
the main smb.conf.
To do this I need to have a combination of sharename and group _and_

CFengine into Puppet
I finally got my cfengine configs all objectified and separated into
service-based configurations. But there are still many things that cfe
can''t or won''t do very well, so I''m looking for a replacement. What
about puppet?
I am looking for something that I can use to manage services and
applications, not hosts and files. It seems like puppet may have
inherited some of

Hi all,
I fear this discussion will quickly devolve into a recursive flame-
fest, but it needs to be broached, so here we go. Note that I kind of
think this is more of dev topic than users, but I want to make sure
everyone knows the conversation is happening and can easily
participate. This is also likely to be the first of a series of
conversations I''ll be starting to try to
