cameras and CentOS
Hi I want to put up a few cameras connected to a CentOS box. I currently have a box with one camera and that works (USB), I can take a pic (the script does that) and see that on a webpage. However, I want to have a couple of cameras a little further away (more than 5 meters). USB has a limit, I have tried that camera with a long...

security cameras
I heard about some inexpensive security cameras which get their power through the same cat5 cable which delivers the data/pictures (which would simplify wiring tremendously). Does anyone know about these? Do they work with Linux, particularly CentOS? tnx 4 tips.

Upgraded samba, mostly still works, but have one issue
...28a to version 3.4.7. The server is an AD member using idmap-rid. I have updated the idmap directives in the config and it mostly worked (winbind works, Windows users can get to their shares with their correct permissions, etc.). The only thing that got broken is the ability of our IP security cameras to store data directly to the server through samba. I believe this may have been caused by a change to a default setting, such as the allowed authentication methods or possibly something like 'allow trusted domains', since these cameras are not capable of actually joining the domain. I...

call an IP camera?
Hi, is it possible to "call" an IP camera? I'm thinking about something like bridging with a music stream, but instead of streaming audio, bridge with the video stream from the camera. It would be very cool if I could just call the camera and see what's going on. Ffmpeg shows the following streams available from the camera: Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (Main),

Video on (video-capable digital) still camera not accessible
I'm looking for any intelligent commentary on this - it may be a little off topic, but I'm wondering if anyone knows about this. This isn't short, so bear with me. Yesterday, I tried to download a video off of one of my digital still cameras that also takes videos (Canon Powershot SX10 iS) on my CentOS x86_64 5.3 system. When I plugged the camera into a USB port and turned it on, it showed no images available, AND no device showed up mounted for it. Now, this is not entirely unusual. I know there's a .mov on the camera, two actu...

Firmware update via USB to Sony NEX camera
Hello. I would like to update my newly acquired Sony NEX camera's firmware. The supplied firmware is packaged in a .exe that's listed on Sony's site as compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7. I ran the .exe under WINE, which was set to XP. The program executes and opens its dialog. The first thing it does is try to find the camera, connected via USB, and determine the

Can't get pictures off camera
Hi, I'm trying to download some pictures off my camera and I keep getting an error. This used to work at some point although I can't say when. The camera is a Cannon EOS and I plug it in to a USB port and turn it on and I get a dialog box with a title of "Cannon Digital Camera" saying "You have just inserted a medium with digital photos...blah blah...". When I

If I use a call file (/var/spool/asterisk/outgoing) is it possible to have a video phone connect to a camera (linksys wvc200) and show the camera stream and hear the audio? How would I do that? Jerry

Accessing ip camera through a vpn client
Hi, I am trying to access devices (ip cams) through clients using the tinc vpn. Let's demonstrate the problem with two clients: client name [ip in eth0] [ip in tun0] gl752 (A) 192.168.1.33 10.0.0.1 xps13 (B) 192.168.1.55 10.0.0.2 I also have an ip camera connected to the local network at 192.168.1.21. I want to try a situation where I am accessing, from linux box

CentOS 6.6: Webcam problem
Last month we discussed the problems with webcams in CentOS 6 and I raised Bugzilla #1158988 with Red Hat. This bug has now been declared a duplicate of 1145805. Unfortunately I'm unable to access that report so although I know Red Hat are looking into the matter I don't know what they're doing. Ron

Camera Communications
I have an Olympus camera which communicates with the software through a special cable connected to COM2:. The software works in WINE, but it won't communicate with the camera, it says my COM: settings are wrong, but I've tried changing settings to about every combination possible with no luck. Any ideas? Has anyone gotten this type of camera to work in WINE? Thanks, BIll K.

Video Streaming an ip mjpeg camera
Hi! Just searched the icecast forum but didn't find anything, so I'll ask you. Do you know of a streaming server to take as input a mjpeg stream from an ip camera and transcode it to ogg[vorbis] and handle it to icecast? Please don't mention vlc. Already tried and every 10 sec it freezes and buffers. Just playing the camera in vlc works fine, but not transcoding and connecting

Re: PC-based video server
...cribe below, the theora format video needs to be transcoded into something like MJPEG format AND streamed at the same time. I really don't know what kind of CPU power you need to do that. If it was a single network camera, I suspect that a high-end PC today could do the job, but 10-20 network cameras, that almost sounds like a cluster, or a rack, of PCs to me. I think the only way you can proceed is to record some video with your network camera while the FPGA encodes it into theora format. It could be as simple as someone walking or running in front of the camera. That will give you the b...

OT hardware question
With the continuing annoyance from motion, my manager's asked me to go looking again for a video surveillance appliance: basically, a motion-detecting DVR and cameras. The big thing, of course, is a) price (this is a US federal gov't agency, and being civilian, money is *tight*, don't give me the libertarian/GOP line about how freely we spend, thankyouverymuch), b) it has to be on the network, and c) we need to be able to d/l to a server, and rm after we...

FPGA implementation in the camera
I'm considering implementing the Theora format in the FPGA of the new camera. The previous model (Elphel 313 - http://www.elphel.com, https://sourceforge.net/projects/elphel) had smaller FPGA and was able to produce just motion JPEG utilizing 97% of the resources. The new (model 333) camera uses 3 times bigger FPGA (and also faster), it also has increased frame buffer and system memory.
