sum part of a vector
Dear colleagues, I have a data set that looks roughly like this; mydat<-data.frame(state=c(rep("Alabama", 5), rep("Delaware", 5), rep("California", 5)), news=runif(15, min=0, max=8), cum.news=rep(0, 15)) For each state, I'd like to cumulatively sum the value of "news" and make that put that value in cum.news. I'm trying as follows but I get really weird results. One thing is that it keeps counting 0's as 1. for...

Lonked Select Boxes
linked selects are critical to my application. for those who don''t know, a linked select updates as the select box it is linked to is updated. for example, if select 1 is "California", then select 2 will list all the cities in California. change select 1 to Washington and select 2 will automatically change to list all the cities in Washington. I use a php forms class to achieve this functionality right now. Does RoR offer it? tia... -- Posted via http://www.ruby-fo...

VoIP providers -- California, U.S.
Hi, Just wondering if people could suggest a good VoIP provider that can service the San Francisco Bay Area and the Los Angeles area. I've tried race.com (recommended to me) but they're kind of hard to get ahold of. Any other suggestions? This is for a business, so reliability is key. I did see the recent thread about this, and while I saw a few mentioned, I didn't see anything

PRI dead in USA?
Hi- Because a majority of my customers are in Europe, I've gotten quite used to working with ISDN (PRI) and BRI on a regular basis. Recently one of my customers asked me if I could terminate a few lines locally here in the USA (California), so I called up SBC to enquire as to how much it would cost to install a BRI here. Although the rates were reasonable (except the installation), I got the distinct impression that they really didn't want to install BRI's. Their comments were "well, BRI is getting quite antiquated&qu...

"XLConnect" packages; Excel dates read incorrectly
Hi, I tried to read xlsx files by "XLConnect" packages, but the dates are one day earlier than it is supposed to be. I moved from California to Taiwan (Eastern Asia), and it worked well in California, but not in Taiwan. Even if I adjust my Mac time to California time zone, it gives the wrong dates. I don't know which part of the setting (in RStudio or in my Mac?) I should adjust. The codes and the data are attached. My data are...
