[OT] Leveno HDD caddies
...ithout media I decided to pull the disk drive and install onto a spare drive that I installed. Those of you with any experience with this model computer or its family can tell where this is going. Basically, the disk drive module for these things is disposable. The HDD is enclosed in a removable caddy but is welded to it. You can only replace the HDD with a pre-mounted HDD in yet another caddy, which item is available only from Leveno. My question is: Does anyone here know of a source for an after-market caddy that fits these machines ad which allows one to install a standard low profile 3.5...

Lost transaction log file in alpha2
I had run alpha1 pretty uneventfully for several weeks. I upgraded to alpha2 a couple of days ago and have since suffered two incidents of "Lost transaction log", resulting in the client being unable to access the mailbox until I "rm dovecot.index.log*" Sep 14 10:48:35 caddy dovecot: imap(jberry): Lost transaction log file /Users/jberry/Maildir/dovecot.index.log seq 1 I should point out that this is a server with a single imap user (myself) and that I know only one imap client was trying to access the server at that point in time (though the client sw Mail.app m...

Error in rename uidlist while fetching through pop3
My dovecot server seems to randomly begin giving errors to pop3 users who try to fetch their email. Once this begins, they see no more new mail, though the mail is in cur. OT supermicro server chassis?
Does anyone have a supermicro 942i server chassis? I'm trying to figure out if it has a true nine 5.25" drive bays, or if the one occupied by the 3.5" caddy is special / crippled. What I want to do is install three of the supermicro 5x3 hot swap backplanes and I'm gunshy about buying one site unseen. Thanks! Gordon

Where to pause stream (minimum decodable length)?
Here is my situation: I have large Speex encoded stream which I would like to playback on wave out device. I could decode whole stream to pcm and play it back as pcm audio, but this is not what I want. Instead I want to decode minimum decodable bits (bytes?) to pcm and play it ... then decode another minimum data chunk and play it, etc. This way I can achieve closest to real-time playback or

Allow direct connection between some (but not all) nodes on the network (Guus Sliepen)
...setup for tinc called tzk, that could allow you to make this easily https://github.com/NebTex/tzk/ it will make better readme this weekend but you need a public machine with a public domain - subdomain pointed to it, the script will install tinc, consul (that is used for coordinate the vpn), and caddy a small reverse proxy for expose consul to the public internet with TLS support. after the installation ends it will print another command that you can run over your nodes to connect to the vpn this is the command that you should run in your master master=true ConsulHost=consul.example.com bash -...

rsync to my external eSATA HD is crashing/freezing my system...
...een attempt has gone blank other than a blinking cursor top left * in graphic mode, there's no (inter)activity whatsoever possible - though screen has desktop on it * the only apparent solution is a hard reset The external drive is a WD 750GB hard-drive in a StarTech.com external hard-drive caddy connected via eSATA cable to an old Dell Vostro 3500. Any help or suggestions debugging this would be really appreciated. Many thanks Morgan.

Samba 3 Password Ageing and History
Hello, I've been looking at Samba 3.0 with a view to an eventual upgrade to help us meet some new security requirements. I've downloaded and compiled the source on the target machine. A test user account has been created and stored using a tdb file. I have set and verified the following using pdbedit: minimum password age 60 (seconds) maximum password age 3600 (seconds)

Framesize for UWB vs. WB encoding
Hi there. I am having a little trouble understanding the frame sizes chosen by the codec. testenc_uwb.c from the speex-1.0 source distribution has a framesize of 640 hardcoded and makes use of this value exclusively. However, a mode query on the actual codec returns 320 as a framesize for this mode. int tmp; speex_mode_query(&speex_uwb_mode, SPEEX_MODE_FRAME_SIZE, &tmp);

Software Raids Questions (I have only ever used hardware?)
Hey List; I have no experience with software RAIDs; at work we only use hardware RAIDs and I'm looking to implement, probably a RAID 5 set up at home for a media server however I have a few questions; I have three 1TB drives in various places; one is inside a USB caddy, one is inside my PC and in is inside my existing media centre. Is it possible to add these three drives to another one to give me 4TBs of space in a RAID setup without having to wipe the drives as in my experience which is only with hardware RAIDs, I have normally formatted all the disks before c...

I need to be able to turn off host checking entirely
I have a small LAN. The entire system is within my view - all the hosts, the switch and the wire. If someone is in a a position to do a "man in the middle" attack, there's no need - they already have me. Over the other side of the room, and beside my desk, I have test systems. I use disk caddies (see www.vipower.com for examples) and can switch operating systems in about the

ALPN and Http/2, CentOS 7.4
Now that 7.4 CR has delivered OpenSSL 1.0.2, I should be able to serve http/2 pages to Chrome, but I still see messages that ALPN is not enabled. OpenSSL 1.0.2 is installed: $ rpm -qa |grep openssl openssl-libs-1.0.2k-8.el7.x86_64 openssl-1.0.2k-8.el7.x86_64 But https://tools.keycdn.com/http2-test says "www.stevenstern.me" supports http 2 but ALPN is not supported. Ideas? Does

3.0.2rc1, LDAP, Solaris 9 and secondary group problem - Bug 395?
Hi, we have tested Samba 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 with LDAP-Support (--with-ldap) on Solaris 8 and it worked fine. The machine authenticates against an OpenLDAP server. Patch 108993-23 is applied and we use native Sun LDAP client modules. On Solaris 9 we ran into problems with secondary groups. Users cannot access files if the rights are based on a secondary group and if this information is stored on

RE: [Asterisk] How to select server ardware?
Hi Chris, I know this is quite an old email, but I was browsing through the archive :) I am currently working on "embedding" asterisk in one of Allwell's STB's. The idea is more or less exactly like yours. The STB will be solid-state and contain OS, Asterisk, Basic configuration and voice files on a flash disk. It will boot up and get a network share via DHCP. This network

Bridged PRI calls - processor involvement?
On a zaptel TE410p, when a call is bridged PRI - PRI how much involvement does the processor have? We're now seeing chunks of missing audio and I can't tell whether this is due to a kernel upgrade or to a zaptel/libpri/asterisk upgrade. I'm not seeing missed interrupts (from a cat of the proc/zaptel files), any other ideas on how I could go about tracking this down? I'm

Software RAID1 Failure Help
I am running software RAID1 on a somewhat critical server. Today I noticed one drive is giving errors. Good thing I had RAID. I planned on upgrading this server in next month or so. Just wandering if there was an easy way to fix this to avoid rushing the upgrade? Having a single drive is slowing down reads as well, I think. Thanks. Assistance needed expanding RAIDZ with larger drives
...3 drives would list, but the new one wouldn''t. GParted couldn''t see the new drive (the old 3 were there!) Again, in all of these situations, the drive WAS detected in the BIOS and everything looked perfectly fine in there. I have now managed to salvage one using Windows and a USB caddy in another computer. This is formatted as one big NTFS volume. So the drive does work. Here is the output from zpool -status: | # zpool status -v | pool: zp | state: ONLINE | scrub: scrub in progress, 30.76% done, 4h33m to go | config: | | NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM |...
