Help with archive bit request
Hello,
I am trying to get the archive bit to behave under Samba 2.2.2
on a Linux box (Slackware 8.0) serving NT and Win2K clients.
I have "map archive = yes" and "dos filemode = yes".
If I have "force create mode = 0100", creating new files sets the archive
bit (good) and "attrib +a filename" will turn on the archive bit if it
was off (good) but

remove my email address
I am starting to receive a lot of unsolicited email at work. I did a web
search on my name to see if my email address is accessible on any web sites.
I got a hit on this site
http://samba.cadcamlab.org/lists/samba/Dec2000/00720.html
which is a message I sent to your list server a couple of years ago. Please
remove my email address from the web page. Thanks.

Old bug resurfacing?
I found this in the archives:
http://samba.cadcamlab.org/lists/samba/Feb2002/00318.html
It pertains pretty directly to the problem I'm seeing.
I first started having it with my 2.7 installed version
so I upgraded to 2.8. I'm still having the same problem.
Basically, I have a group of web developers that use
the linux/samba server for editi...

Win2k & 2.0.7
When I try to join the Win2k machine to a domain, I get the following message:
The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "WIN2K":
The procedure number is out of range.
This is a Win2k PC attempting to join to AIX 4.3.2 running samba 2.0.7. Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Pls include Message-Id hdrs!! (Re: alternate mail archive)
Please include all the relevant headers in any mailing list archives you
set up.
Specifically:
- From
- To
- Cc
- Date
- Subject
- Message-Id
- Reply-To
- Followups-To
and so on. The From/To/Cc headers are not absolutely necessary, but the
others are.
This is necessary so that those of us who don't subscribe to the list
can actually reply correctly to mails posted to the list.

[PATCH] `smbclient -M' ignores `-p port'
Peter:
Thanks! It now works fine on Solaris 2.6. Now I just need to remember how
to manipulate source RPMs so I can fix the Linux (RedHat 6.x) version. :-)

Where are the archives?
Hi,
I seem unable to find the archives of the various samba
mailing lists, could you please help me? I tried the links
on the main samba pages on various mirrors but those return
a 404, I also looked on lists.samba.org but I cannot find
them there also, even the cgi-bin for searching returns a
404...
Thanks in advance,

[homes] vs [homes$]
Hi all. Is it possible to have a generic share like [homes] that hides
all user home dir shares by default by appending a "$" to them? I'd
search the archives but they have not yet been tx'd. I realise there is
"browse vs nobrowse" but I specifically need to have end users map to
\\srv\user$ rather than \\srv\user.

Mounting smbfs as guest at boot time
I have searched for a solution to my problem, and have
only found one short discussion which mentioned it
(http://samba.cadcamlab.org/lists/samba/Aug2001/msg00364.html),
and I didn't feel it contained a resolution I could
use. In a nutshell, I want to mount an win2k share as
'guest' at boot time on a linux web server.[1] It
just won't work any way that I've tried it.
I can quite easily mount a share as...

ANNOUNCE: alternate mail archive site
...ather than using my
MUA, I finally got around to setting up a MHonArc server. I'm
announcing it here because there may be one or two other souls out
there who also hate Those Other List Archive Programs. If any of you
happen to be one of these, by all means set a bookmark for:
http://samba.cadcamlab.org/lists/
Well, correction, I'm *getting* around to it. It isn't getting a live
procmail feed yet, but I fed all my old mboxes into it and that works.
So for the next day or so it'll be slightly out of date. Also my
mboxes only go back to last November, and I haven't figured out...

Problems accessing files with (lib)smbclient
Hi!
Seems like I need some help with a really awkward problem I stumbled over
today. In a remote access solution I developed, a Perl CGI script accesses
a Windows NT 4.0 Server through Filesys::SmbClient and thus libsmbclient.
Browsing the shares and the directories works perfectly but as soon as I
try to get any file, it fails with a "Permission denied", even if I try it
with the

WINBIND with usernames with &
Samba doesn't allow connections from usernames that have & in them. For
example, using 2.2.5 and winbind with

workgroup = MIXEDDOMAIN
all my users can login, (for example MIXEDDOMAIN+aho, MIXEDDOMAIN+tdickson),
but my users named "&" and "bobalso&" (which should be MIXEDDOMAIN+& and
