ACI appraisal program "freezes" when accessing SAMBA shares
...smbd process grabs almost 100% cpu.
Nothing showed up in a level 2 log, but a level 5 log contained the
following call several thousand times, creating a 10MB log file in a
couple minutes:

Name mangling bug: was samba bug?
Hi James,
this sounds familiar - I believe I looked at a wire trace,
and windows is dropping the trailing dots BEFORE it sends the
request over the wire. so samba never sees the name foo..., thus
does not create it.

I tried another dfs link with mangling method defaulted to 2. This link
was called part1. This one showed up as MX2XKC~P ( where part0 was
MX2XKC~O) so there must be some translation prob...

I really appreciate all your responses on this.
I might not have fixed it by looking at samba logs but i noticed there was
directory in user unix directory with wildcard * as folder name
once i removed it, samba showed up all the files and directory.
am not sure what would * as folder name caused this behaviour
may be samba was trying to interpret * as something else not sure......
or it was
