RePartition OS disk, give some to zpool
I''ve got knee deep into learning how to use Opensolaris and zfs, and I see now that my goal of home zfs server may have been better served if I had partitioned the install disk leaving some of the 60GB to be added to a zpool. First, how much space does a working OS need. I don''t mean bare minimum but to be comfortable and have some growing room (on the install disk)?

Expanding a root pool
...this: 1. Created a new 20GB virtual disk. 2. Booted into the VM. 3. Created a Solaris partition covering the whole virtual disk. 4. Created a slice 0 covering cylinders 1 to 2607 (i.e. the whole disk but cylinder 0). 4. Attached the slice 0 to the root pool using "zpool attach rpool /dev/dsk/c3d0s0 /dev/dsk/c5t0d0s0". 5. Installed grub using "installgrub /boot/grub/stage1 /boot/grub/stage2 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d0s0". 6. detached the old 8GB virtual disk using "zpool detach rpool /dev/dsk/c3d0s0". 7. init 6. 8. reconfigured the VM BIOS to boot from the 2nd HDD first. ZFS Pool Question
...ol to increase my storage capacity without a raid controller? >From what I''ve found, the command should be "zpool add rpool <device>". Is that right? If so, how do I track down the device name? "zpool status" tells me my current device (hdd0) is named "c3d0s0". Where do I find the other device name? Thanks! -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

can''t boot 2009.06 domU on Xen 3.4.1 / CentOS 5.3 dom0
I''ve got a CentOS 5.3 dom0 with Xen 3.4.1-rc5 (or so). I''ve tried the same stuff below with 3.4.0, no difference. I''m trying to install 2009.06 PV domU based on instructions from [1] and [2]. I can run the install fine, I can also get the kernel and boot archive (from [2]) after the install. But for the life of me I can''t get the installed domU to boot. If I

zpool upgrade wrecked GRUB
Machine is running x86 snv_94 after recent upgrade from opensolaris 2008.05. ZFS and zpool reported no troubles except suggesting upgrade for from ver.10 to ver.11. seemed like a good idea at the time. system up for several days after that point then took down for some unrelated maintenance. now will not boot the opensol, drops to grub prompt, no menus. zfs was mirrored on two disks c6d0s0 and

Accidentally added disk instead of attaching
Hi, I wanted to add a disk to the tank pool to create a mirror. I accidentally used zpool add ? instead of zpool attach ? and now the disk is added. Is there a way to remove the disk without loosing data? Or maybe change it to mirror? Thanks, Martijn -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Changing rpool device paths/drivers
Hello all, It was often asked and discussed on the list about "how to change rpool HDDs from AHCI to IDE mode" and back, with the modern routine involving reconfiguration of the BIOS, bootup from separate live media, simple import and export of the rpool, and bootup from the rpool. The documented way is to reinstall the OS upon HW changes. Both are inconvenient to say the least.
