R 3.5.0 Binaries for Ubuntu now available
Binaries for R 3.5.0 are now available at a new PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter3.5
These have not been mirrored to CRAN as I want to have the other r-cran
packages built against R 3.5 before adding to CRAN. Worried about
breaking working systems currently on R 3.4.4.
Status updates on my twitter account @marutterstat.

c2d4u: apt sees new package version as a downgrade
Hello,
I noticed a strange thing when attempting to upgrade a specific package (lavaan) from c2d4u and wondered if someone could confirm the problem. In short, apt seems to think that an older version from the "universe" repo is higher than the newer version from c2d4u.
When I do
apt-cache showpkg r-cran-lavaan
I get the output at the bottom of this email. Then, I tried to force ins...

| Thanks, Michael. I did some simple tests, upgrading existing r-base

Does it have a r-api-3.4 tag like the official packages? Michael and I may

So blame us.

bug in r-cran-curl from c2d4u
On Bionic with c2d4u I see:
The following packages have been kept back:
r-cran-curl
The problem is that r-cran-curl from 2d4du has a runtime dependency on
libcurl4-openssl-dev. This dev package cannot be installed in
conjunction with libcurl4-gnutls-dev (which again is required by some
other packages).

Cran2deb4ubuntu: An Update for 2014
...have been a little quiet on the update front for the past few months,
so I thought I would give a quick update as 2014 begins. Between
increased responsibilities at work (pseudo-department chair) and some
family health issues, work on
[cran2deb4ubuntu](https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/c2d4u)
(c2d4u) slowed a bit in the last half of 2013. Here is the current
state of cran2deb4ubuntu.
### Precise and Raring continue to be updated
During the last half of 2013, Precise and Raring have been updated on
more or less a weekly basis. In fact, additional packages from the

but it is not going to be installed
Which is caused by:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
liblept5 : Depends: libopenjp2-7 (>= 2.0.0) but it is not installable
This is caused by the recent update libleptonica on c2d4u. I guess
this new version also requires a backport of libopenjp2-7.
More generally I'm wondering if perhaps c/c++ libs backports should go
into a separate PPA? I was assuming c2d4u would only provide r-cran
packages but not have any side effects on system libs.

c2d4u3.5 ppa for Ubuntu 20.04?
Hi
I tried to use Michael's ppa after having installed Ubuntu 20.04 and R 4,
and it seems the ppa is not available now for 20.04, I get message: The
repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/marutter/c2d4u3.5/ubuntu focal
Release' does not have a Release file
Am I doing something wrong, or is it correct that it is not available yet?
Are there any plans to implement it at some point?
Thanks!!

Since c2d4u is (for the most part) automatic, it only grabs depends from
the CRAN web page. Therefore, there is no r-api-nn dependency for
packages built from c2d4u so...

Ubuntu 20.10
Hi Dirk,
Apologies for the html.
I think I'm missing something simple.?? Ubuntu 20.10 uses /etc/apt/sources.list.d to hold repo information and I have this file there: marutter-ubuntu-rrutter4_0-focal.list with contents:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/marutter/rrutter4.0/ubuntu/ focal main
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/marutter/rrutter4.0/ubuntu/ groovy main

...(https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/rdev) webpage. As of
right now, only 12.10 (quantal) builds are available, but others will be
added when bugs are worked out. Please, do not have the RDev PPA and
(CRAN or RRutter PPA) enabled at the same time, as that could cause issues.
**What about c2d4u?**
Excellent question.
**Stopping support for Hardy and Oneiric**
Both Hardy (8.04) and Oneiric (11.10) are ending support in April 2013.
Therefore, I will not be updating any version of R for these releases.
I, for one, am happy to finally be able to rid myself of the albatross

A guide to R packages for Ubuntu
Hi everyone,
I am using the backports from
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/lucid/ on Lucid and would
like to create a bunch of additional r-cran packages on my workstation.
Where can I find the latest scripts to automatically create those
packages? Is https://r-forge.r-project.org/projects/cran2deb/ still
up-to-date?

New libpng in c2d4u3.5 breaks many other packages

Depends: libmagickwand-dev (=

E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
The problem is that a few hours ago a version of libpng1.6 was
published to c2d4u3.5 which is not compatible with the version of
imagemagick in trusty. Becuase libmagick++ is installed by default on
Travis, this breaks almost all installations.
I think it's best to only publish R packages in c2d4u, not system libs.
