Using zfs boot with MPxIO on T2000
...led 03 June 2008
Installed from DVD as ZFS boot filesystems
1 SAN disk attached from IBM SVC using DS8300 storage.
2 - 1 port Qlogic cards attached to McData 6064 Directors
Here''s my questions:
1. After the install I created a zfs mirror of the root disk c0t0d0 to c0t1d0, format shows the mirrored disk with sectors instead of cylinders, is this normal or correct? Is there a way to reverse this back to cylinders if it is not? Same goes for the external disk pool using SAN disk from the IBM SVC.
2. After enabled MPxIO (stmsboot -e), the 2 root disks now have MPxI...

zpool create using whole disk - do I add "p0"? E.g. c4t2d0 or c42d0p0
I have seen conflicting examples on how to create zpools using full disks. The zpool(1M) page uses "c0t0d0" but OpenSolaris Bible and others show "c0t0d0p0". E.g.:
zpool create tank raidz c0t0d0 c0t1d0 c0t2d0 c0t3d0 c0t4d0 c0t5d0
zpool create tank raidz c0t0d0p0 c0t1d0p0 c0t2d0p0 c0t3d0p0 c0t4d0p0 c0t5d0p0
I have not been able to find any discussion on whether (or when) to add the "p0" to the disk name while creating whole disk zpools.
In my case, I will have 9 disks in Raid-Z3 (home...

Interesting Pool Import Failure
...csi intiators I
should switch over to 2008.05. I thought I would simply just be able to
install 2008.05 over top of Sol10U5 and import / upgrade the pool and move
on. Indeed I probably can do that, but it didn''t quite go as planned...
So under U5, the boot devices (mirrored w/ SVM) were c0t1d0 and c5t0d0, I
exported the zpool and rebooted. Through the ILOM''s Java console I mounted
the 2008.05 iso and booted from it. When the OS came online, I quickly
started the installer and selected the device labeled c0t1d0 to as the
installation target.... this was rather stupid on my part...

What is the correct way to replace a good disk?
I have a 9-bay JBOD configured as a raidz2. One of the disks, which is on-line and fine, needs to be swapped out and replaced. I have been looking though the zfs admin guide and am confused on how I should go about swapping out. I though I could put the disk off-line, remove it, put a new disk in, and put on-line. Does this sound right?
Any help would be great
Thanks
Chris

bug :zpool create allow member driver as the raw drive of full partition
...e member driver of rpool.
Infact, solaris2 partition can be more then one in each Hard Disk, so we also can use the RAW driver like : c0t0d0p1 (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0p1) ,c0t0d0p2 (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0p2) as the member driver to create a new zpool :
Morpho at egoodbrac1:~# zpool create dpool raidz c0t0d0p1,c0t1d0,c0t2d0
This command can successful create a new raidz pool named dpool
and c0t0d0p1 means the RAW drive of the first solaris2 partition of the system disk (c0t0d0),c0t1d0 and c0t2d0 is another 2 RAW disk.
But ,If you understand , in logic the member driver of rpool c0t0d0s0 should same with c0t0d...

PC''s, but refuses to work on my Sparc processor. So I''ve formated it on
my Sparc machine (Blade 2500), works great there now, but not on

A few Newbie questions about RAIDZ
1. I have a 4x18GB drive setup as RAIDZ. Now when thinking about it
in terms of RAID5 I would expect to get (4-1)x18 worth of drive
space, but DF -h shows 4x18. Is this a bug or do I not understand?
2. Once again thinking in RAID5 terms if I have 4X18GB and 12X9GB
drives and I want to make a RAIDZ of all of them I would expect the
18GB to be treated at 9GB so the RAIDZ would be 16X9GB. Is

ZFS vs UFS performance Using Different Raid Configurations
...urations are not recommended. ZFS might work properly on such devices, but less-than-optimal performance might be the result".. so with this in mind.
ZFS vs UFS/SVM:
UFS File systems are created using SVM
ZFS File systems are created using the disks.
So using the same disks eg.... c0t0d0 / c0t1d0 / c0t2d0 / c0t3d0
1) Create STRIPE
2) Create Mirror
3) Create RAID-5
And run bunch of performance tests. We''re using SWAT for measuring I/O.
