How to backup a slice ? - newbie

Or, in the good old, non-zfs, way I intend to either
% mount /dev/dsk/c0d0s7 /mnt
% cp -a /export/home/* /mnt/
or - my preferred way -
dump -0au -f backup.home /dev/dsk/c0d1s1
reboot, umount /dev/dsk/c0d1s7 and restore.
I understand all this is not needed any longer; but the documentation does not seem to cater for the very basics here; also that nice flash-movie does''t address the problem how to replicate a complete file system and shut the first one off (which is why adding to the pool won...
