USB boot problems on Gigabyte GA-M55Plus-S3G
...nd-luser, shouldn't > have to employ specializsed install tools, >From the user point of view you would indeed be best off if you returned the board to the seller and demand a different one. Its firmware is ill. No doubt. Its reaction on the active/boot flag clearly indicates it. But we bystanders are interested in learning how to succeed even with this miserable hardware. One never knows when one of our users steps into the same puddle. So we use you as probe, as long as you are willing to boldly go where no human has gone before. Have a nice day :) Thomas

As an interested bystander, I see that this proposal still has only one format and one rate field for possibly many channels. Earlier someone made the point that you might want to store main and side/back channels with different width and/or rate. Using different logical streams was suggested as an alternative, but has t...

...would not have bothered to read your original question nor the answers you got, but I did read the summary -- and I learned something quite interesting! Maybe some others who receive multiple non-elementary answers to their questions could sometimes bother to compile a summary so that some of the bystanders be educated at low cost?? Unrealistic? I'd be willing to do it for my own questions if it was at least a little common. Lutz

To fix broken firmware I would first suggest to check if a BIOS update is available and then reset the BIOS to it's defaults. As a bystander I am taking notes for every piece of ill hardware. Between 1% and...

OggPCM format description, rev 3
Hi all, I updated the wiki with another rev of this format. Updates include support for 43 formats in 14 coding schemes, as derived from the ALSA API. This seemed like a good way to get a list of what the formats in common use out there are, so it should be fairly comprehensive. Modifications to the "rev 2" format: 1. Expanded the 'id' field to support more than 7 formats.

isohybrid boot from logical partition
Hi, > The ISO will boot successfully (when chainloaded from grub) on 2 and > 3, but not on 5 and 6. Did you try with a boot loader other than GRUB ? Afaik, the MBRs of newly bought USB sticks often contain code which hops on the MBR code of the partition that is marked by the boot flag. At least one could exclude that your problem is in a GRUB peculiarity. Have a nice day :) Thomas

kjournald hang on ext3 to ext3 copy
All, I am running into a situation in which one of my ext3 filesystems is getting hung during normal usage. There are three ext3 filesystems on a CompactFLASH. One is mounted as / and one as /tmp. In my test, I am copying a 100 MB file from /root to /tmp repeatedly. While doing this test, I eventually see the copying stop, and any attempts to access /tmp fail - if I even do ls /tmp the

How to list all models of an application?!?
How can I get a list of all model classes in the domain of a Rails application (all models, both in "app/models" and in components/somedir/model.rb)? Thanx in advance for your precious help! Edoardo "Dado" Marcora

LLVM and heap-allocated thread stacks
In some language implementations, such as the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (GHC) and the reference implementation of Go, a thread’s stack is allocated as a data structure on the garbage-collected heap.  The garbage collector is free to move this data structure whenever it is invoked. Currently, GHC’s LLVM backend does not use the C stack.  However, there have been discussions about whether using the

Yeah, I could setup an extra XCP box - but at smaller setups, it really seems like overkill. So, it sounds like restores of the VM work "fine." How often do machine accounts reset their passwords? [This is the one that is most likely to be problematic. Rejoining the domain means a new profile. And that's a big PITA on the client side.] User password changes can simply be handled by

Looking for company behind serverhostingcenter.com and directhostingcenter.com for causing problems on dir.xiph.org
...em with stream-hosting outfits is, that quite often they will host a dozen or more servers on one IPv4 address and associated FQDN. This means, that if I can't reach such a company, I am forced to pull the plug on *ALL* their clients. I'm rather reluctant to do that, as it will hit innocent bystanders who's only fault it is to have bought services from an incompetent company. So once again, if anyone has hints as to which company is hiding behind the domains: serverhostingcenter.com directhostingcenter.com and more importantly knows a way to reach someone responsible. Just to be clear, I...

[LLVMdev] GSoC:Loop Reversal Transformation
Hi, I have been studying LLVM infrastructure from past 1 month and trying out some hands on to get familiar with it. I am keen to propose loop reversal pass in LLVM as a part of GSoC 2015. Following are the details of my proposal. A for loop can run in two ways – it can count up or it can count down. 1. for(i=0; i<10 ;i++) {// Do something} 2. for(i=9; i--;) {// Do something}

Change in list policy
Given the recent problems associated with the MyDoom virus (specifically the problem of clueless mail administrators who configure their AV software to spam innocent bystanders during a virus storm), I have changed the settings on the Shorewall mailing lists so that posts by non-members will be moderated. This policy will remain in effect until further notice. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorew...

isohybrid boot from logical partition
Hi, do we have bystanders who can read x86 assembler code or know easy-to-grasp reference docs? (I left machine code programming when i gave up using my VIC-20.) The MBR template isohdppx.bin stems from http://git.zytor.com/syslinux/syslinux.git/tree/mbr/isohdpfx.S with macro PARTITION_SUPPORT defined. One can see the...
