Administration
I know this may sound a bit lazy, but I don't really wanna bother with
writing many scripts from the Administration of my SMB-2.2.2 as an NT PDC
Box... (like adding users, deleting users, adding shares and modifying
passwords stuffs, knowing that I do the Unix-SMB password sync)... So does
anyone have good scripts, or some reference pages?? I searched everywhere in
vain for that...

UPS integration into NUT
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
we are developer and producer of UPS devices. Now we would like to integrate a small UPS via USB connection to NAS systems. We heart from third party that we need a special driver for NAS systems to work fine and to display also the company name and UPS device name in the web page / software of NAS.
Currently we have a UPS with USB and our own VID (0x2B2D) and PID

old UPSes on the secondary market selling for very cheap, and they
still work fine since power standards have not changed. That tends to
create large market inertia to changing protocols.

RS-232 Port with Nut
Hello All,
I am trying to read my Eaton 5P 1550 with the Rs-232 port but I cannot get nut to read the driver from my Rs-232 to USB adaptor.
When I perform lsusb -t it says my B&B electronics adaptor uses driver
ftdi_sio
How do I get the nut to read information coming from that??
Thanks,
Connor

is rsync across (as root so that I am not denied anything) only after
interactively supplying my root password to the SSH daemon. How do I get
around interactive SSH interactive password requirement so that I can
cron all these rsync client requests regularly?
Thanks.

Best way to setup Samba + OpenLDAP + Linux to use a different partition for /home?
...Samba server. Should I create a separate admin account? Or could I
simply create two different home directories - one for the regular users
and one for the admins?
3) What is the easiest way to set this up so a person with little
technical background can do it fairly easily?
Thanks!

ZFS Compression algorithms - Project Proposal
...lly significant
progress has been made in this area since the first algorithms of
Manbers and Myers[2] and Larsson and Sadakane[3], notably the new
linear time algorithms of Karkkainen and Sanders[4]; Kim, Sim and
Park[5] and Ko e aluru[6] and also the promising O(nlogn) algorithm of
Karkkainen and Burkhardt[7].
As a conjecture, we believe that some intrinsic properties of ZFS and
file systems in general (e.g. sparseness and data entropy in blocks)
could be exploited in order to produce brand new and really efficient
compression algorithms, as well as the adaptation of existing ones to
the task. The s...

haven't found anything. How am I supposed to create groups to use with
Samba? Does there need to be an entry in for Unix? Any help
appreciated

netlogon scripts
All,
If I want to specify a logon script, does security need to be set to
Domain? The issue is that we have authentication at the PDC/BDC so that
our VPN users can map drives on their home PC's. Is there a different
way to do a logon script other than setting the SECURITY = DOMAIN?
I am running 2.2.8a (planning on 2.2.12) on Solaris 8. Thanks for
your help.

print que not updating
All,
There was a similar thread in August but I'm not sure if this is the
same problem. Basically what's happening is that I'm printing a desktop
file(Word/Excel/IE) to a printer served up on my samba server. The job
prints, the file get deleted on the server but in my system tray, it
seems like the job never gets removed from the que or it's extremely
slow. Sometimes the job

Suggestions for moving a PDC function
I currently have a server which is both the PDC for my domain and the file
server for the network.
I need to split these functions and move the PDC function to another box,
while leaving the original server as the file server on which home
directories and roaming profiles are stored. User credentials are stored in
a tdbsam database and I am running Samba 3.5.
Does anyone have any pointers on
